The Chryse national football team is the football team which currently represents the Benacian Union autonomous territory of Chryse, and previously represented the independent nation, United Benacian Republic constituent nation and Elwynnese autonomous territory of the same name. It is a member of the WMFA. The team is the official successor of the Verionist Republic and Verionian Empire, and as such retains their records.
History
The team was founded in mid-2020 after the foundation of Chryse as the successor state to Gran Verionia, which itself was the successor to the Verionian Empire and the Verionist Republic. Gran Verionia's team was initially intended to be the official successor team to the Verionian Empire but the nation was dissolved prior to the completion of the 2020 EMU Championships qualification rounds, with Chryse being its successor. In the qualifiers, as the Verionian Empire, the team advanced to the play-offs, but were beaten on aggregate by Passas. Chryse gained independence shortly after its foundation, after the United Benacian Republic was dissolved, before being annexed by Elwynn in late 2020.
The team first competed as Chryse in the 2021 FMF World Cup qualification rounds, finishing fourth in their five-team group with nine points.
In early 2022, prior to the year's Benacia Cup qualifiers, Chryse became an autonomous territory of the Benacian Union following the merger of Elwynn with the Unified Governorates and retained its FMF membership. In the qualifiers themselves, the team finished third in their five-team group with eleven points. In late 2022, Chryse competed in the inaugural All-Union Festival Tournament, finishing bottom of their group with a sole point.
The 2023 FMF World Cup qualification rounds saw the team finish bottom of their four-team group with two points, leading to an appearance at the 2023 Emerging Nations Cup, where they won three consecutive matches without conceding a goal to secure a first ever trophy win.
