The Prince of the Calbain (Calbic: Tywysog y Calbain) is the title for the ruler of the Calbain people. The Prince of the Calbain is the ceremonial head of state of Calbion and, although the office holds little power, is considered the father of the nation.
Prince of the Calbain (Calraeg: Tywysog Calbain) is the title for the ruler of the Calbain people and is subsequently the title of the head of state of Calbion.

First Era
The current prince is Jack III (since 1733).

It is hard to tell when the First Era starts, of monarchs before Owain I, nothing is known. It is thought that rulers until that day served for a limited term. The tribal society of the Calbain made the role of the Prince less important than it would later become. The first rulers of this list are only known from the biography of Cedric I, written by Merthyl of Penwlad in 340 CD.

The position of the Prince of the Calbain originated in the 15th century in the period of Calbain tribes. Originally an elected tribal position, the Prince of the Calbain developed quickly into an inherited position. In the late tribal years, and the early years of the Calbain state, the Prince of the Calbain was an absolutist ruler. Following the 1630s, the role of the Prince became more ceremonial, with its political powers being limited by the rising importance of the Governor-General.

Second Era
The Second Era was introduced when Cedric I was executed by a gathering of family heads. He was replaced with Athyl I, who became the first elected head of state of Calbion. Princes were elected until Gwynedd II. The period of elected Princes is known as the Second Era.

The Prince of the Calbain used to have a position of significant political power until the death of Jack I. The successive Princes saw their political role become highly limited, especially following the democratic reforms and the institutionalisation of the elected Cynulliad Cenedlaethol and the High Council. Currently, the Prince of the Calbain is a mainly symbolic office, representing national unity and transcending political differences. As such, the office of Prince is widely regarded in a positive light by the Calbain people.

Interregnum
Succession
According to a law adopted in 1597, the Prince of the Calbain is succeeded to by the most senior legitimate agnatic (i.e., male-line) heir of Baldwin de Montfort (1511-1580), paternal grandfather of Prince Jack I.

During the Maraguan period, many of the Princes of the Calbain lost large parts of their lands. Llywelyn VI is the last person to be proclaimed Prince as far as sources tell. Maraguan cultural genocide against the Calbain population resulted in an interregnum of 139 years.
Current order of succession
As of 20.V.1737, the order of succession is as follows:

Prince of the Calbain (restored)
#Alois de Montfort (1675- ), brother of Jack III
#Adelbert de Montfort (1679- ), brother of Jack III
#Richard de Montfort (1645-), fourth cousin of Jack III
#Baldwin de Montfort (1647– ), fourth cousin of Jack III

{| class="vatop" style="border: solid 1px #808080; background-color:#EFEFEF;" cellspacing="2" cellpadding="2"  width="800px"
After this, the agnatic line will be extinct.

Second interregnum
The second interregnum lasted from the Doom of Calbion (the destruction following the Calbain Independence War) and the subsequent Maraguan and Brettish reign. Llywelyn Lewis served as head of state in his position as Governor-General.
Investiture
Upon the death of their predecessor, the designated Prince of the Calbain first undergoes a traditional ritual which is known as the investiture. In this highly religiously significant ceremony, the future Prince is stripped of all his former titles, offices and possessions, only to emerge as the symbolic leader of the Calbain people, to whom his life and work is to be dedicated going forward.

The Prince of the Calbain (Calbic: Tywysog y Calbain) is the title for the ruler of the Calbain people. The Prince of the Calbain is the ceremonial head of state of Calbion and, although the office holds little power, is considered the father of the nation.

The current prince is Jack III (since 1733).

History

The position of the Prince of the Calbain originated in the 15th century in the period of Calbain tribes. Originally an elected tribal position, the Prince of the Calbain developed quickly into an inherited position. In the late tribal years, and the early years of the Calbain state, the Prince of the Calbain was an absolutist ruler. Following the 1630s, the role of the Prince became more ceremonial, with its political powers being limited by the rising importance of the Governor-General.

Role in Calbain society

The Prince of the Calbain used to have a position of significant political power until the death of Jack I. The successive Princes saw their political role become highly limited, especially following the democratic reforms and the institutionalisation of the elected Cynulliad Cenedlaethol and the High Council. Currently, the Prince of the Calbain is a mainly symbolic office, representing national unity and transcending political differences. As such, the office of Prince is widely regarded in a positive light by the Calbain people.

Succession

According to a law adopted in 1597, the Prince of the Calbain is succeeded to by the most senior legitimate agnatic (i.e., male-line) heir of Baldwin de Montfort (1511-1580), paternal grandfather of Prince Jack I.

Current order of succession

As of 20.V.1737, the order of succession is as follows:

 1. Alois de Montfort (1675- ), brother of Jack III
 2. Adelbert de Montfort (1679- ), brother of Jack III
 3. Richard de Montfort (1645-), fourth cousin of Jack III
 4. Baldwin de Montfort (1647– ), fourth cousin of Jack III

After this, the agnatic line will be extinct.
