Yakka, officially the Socialist State of Yakka, is a country in Northern Apollonia. Occupying former Hyllandor and Slobenberg of the fallen Ashinthael, it borders Meckelnburgh along the Tallandor Bay, Lac Glacei on its north, and Hurmu to its south. Its eastern side borders the fallen remains of Ashinthael. Kang is the capital and largest city.

Following the collapse of Ashinthael in 1737, the holds of Hyllandor and Slobenberg were overcome by a party of several natives believed to have descended from the former Jingdaoese people. A civil war promptly ensued between the Ashinthalers and the Jingdaonese descendents, however, due to the absence of a working government, military, and leadership, the Ashinthalers lost out in the war over their land, handing over the rights for territorial occupation to the Jingdaoese people in 1743.

Yakka is a totalitarian dictatorship led by the Kang family. It is believed that the civil war over territorial occupation was looked over by the Kangs with 47-year-old Kang Min Chol taking the helm as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Yakka (WPY). The country has a comprehensive cult of personality over the Kangs with reasoning believed due to their involvement in the civil war for independence. The country is officially regarded as a socialist state with democratic elections however research studies contradict that claim. The country also raises concerns over human rights due to the inability for citizens to leave the country without special grants by the government or connections to the outside world via technology but the same research studies cite it as a grey area due to the lack of information coming out of the country. The quality of life is maintained by the WPY which oversees healthcare, education, housing, construction, food production, and economy - everything being state funded.

Yakka has compulsory military service in its constitution, requiring all its citizens to serve in the army between the ages of 18 to 27. Men are required to serve for four and a half years while women are required to serve for three. Conscripted citizens can serve the military via other outlets such as representing the nation in sports, politics, or culture, all of which falls under the Patriotism Act which states that representing the nation in global events counts towards their service.

Etymology

The first sightings of a referred name for Yakka occured around 1740 when the Yakkan people declared themselves as Yèguó (业国), "industry country", named after the Slobenberg hold which acted as the industrial centre of former Ashinthael. In 1742, when the language strayed away from pure Jingdaoese and/or Taesongean and evolved into its own Yakkanese language, the people of Yakka referred to their country as Ieggol. The name was then anglicised to Yakka.

Yakka's capital was initially named Gǎng (岗), "hillock", named after the fallen Ashinthael. After the language's evolvement, the official name of the capital was Kgang, later anglicised as Kang.

History

Former Ashinthael Civil War

It was heavily believed that the sudden increase in numbers of Jingdaonese descendents was due to the influence of the former Jing Dynasty in the region. The resulted in an influx of Jingdaoese natives to reside in the former regions of Hyllandor and Slobenberg. Taking advantage of the lack of proper governing structure in the area, the Jingdaoese descendents grouped up and started a civil war for territorial occupation. As the former states of Ashinthael was considered non-existent, the remaining citizens had to fend for themselves and when they were unable to fight back, they signed a peace treaty with the Jingdaoese, ending the civil war in 1743.

Post-war developments

Having taken over former Hyllandor and Slobenberg, the Kang family sought to use their involvement in the civil war for personal benefit. Declaring themselves as the sole powers of the nation, they established a totalitarian dictatorship with Kang Min Chol taking the helm. Not wanting citizens to take refuge in neighbouring countries, border control was militarised as much as possible to prevent defection while connection to the outside world was prohibited. This meant signal to overseas territories on mobile devices were revoked for the common man outside of the Kang regime and their associates. Regular citizens were still allowed entertainment on their devices as per usual but were limited to the new Y1 data which communicates only with other Y1 devices.

With Slobenberg occupied, the Yakkan sought to rebuild the industrial centre to boost efficiency and rebuilding of infrastructure in former Slograde, now renamed as Kang. While industrial reparations were done in the former Slobenberg area, more factories and establishments were built in former Hyllandor alongside with a total restructure of the former area's agriculture system. The country also shifted to a state funded system to boost lifestyle in the nation.

Geography

Yakka occupies the far left of the Northern Apollonia region next to the Tallandor Bay

Provinces

Yakka has 10 provinces. The biggest province, Gamcheul, hosts the country's capital, Kang.

Government and politics

The Kang family

The country is run by the Kang family and their associates due to their involvement in the Former Ashinthael Civil War. Yakka functions as a highly centralised, one-party totalitarian dictatorship.

Demographics

Language

Records show that before the country's establishment as Yakka, the people of the movement for territorial occupation communicated in traditional Jingdaoese due to their heritage as Jingdaoese people. While uncommon, they also spoke in Taesongean which can still be seen in bits and pieces of the current language. After Yakka declared their independence as a nation, Kang Min Chol declared a revision of the language to separate themselves as their own Yakkan people by straying away from traditional Jingdaoese and Taesongean language systems. Yakkanese is a logogram language with it's own unique writing system.

A lot of Yakkanese words are formed by a prefix and suffix. The prefix usually being an indicator word while the suffix being a descriptive word. This can be seen in the country's own word for Yakkanese, manzzul, the prefix man meaning "our", and the suffix zzul meaning "speech", meaning "our speech" symbolising the ownership of the Yakkanese language by the Yakkans themselves.

Yakka isn't limited to strictly Yakkanese however, as Taesongean and Jingdaoese are still spoken amongst older Yakkans, albeit uncommonly. Due to the nature of Yakka's establishment from fallen Ashinthael land, Istvanistani is also taught in schools and regularly used as a mother tongue for majority of the Yakkan people in contrast to the limited use of traditional Taesognean and Jingdaoese

Religion

It is mostly unknown what the national religion of Yakka is but it is estimated that about 73% of the population practices Tianchaodao due to their Jingdaoese roots. 5% practice Buddhism and 12% do not practice any religion. It is confirmed that the Kang family practices Tianchaodao after Kang Min Chol ordered for temples to be built in the country and was spotted visiting the first ever temple in Yakka with his family.

Education

The entire population is considered literate as pre-school, primary school, and secondary school fees are all covered by the government for all school students. Colleges and universities fees are partially covered by the government although further subsidies can be requested if students meet certain achievements and requirements.

Culture

Sports

Yakka has a huge influx on sports in the country, having association football, basketball, table tennis, gymnastics, and boxing as co-curriculum activities in schools. However, due to the economy being prioritised for industrial revolutions, sports in Yakka have yet to establish a proper foundation for themselves. Football is the most popular sport in the country and a football league, the Yakka Premier League, is set to be established soon.
