Operation Vendetta

Operation Vendetta
Date 23.XIV.1677–24.VII.1678 AN
Location Sacovia
Belligerents
Caradia LONSS
  • Terrorist Forces

Following the terrorist attack on Sacred Square, Relacul, the Caradian crown resolved to immediately take strong action against LONSS, who had claimed to have perpetrated the attack as a retaliation for ending the country's isolation, potentially bringing new settlers to Sacovia. The Caradian Legions were mobilised to march into Sacovia and destroy all terrorist resistance.

Operation Vendetta was officially declared on 23.XIV.1677 AN, stating that the goal of the operation was to crush any and all terrorist resistance in Sacovia, and find and execute Ròneau d'Àgrôvia, the self-proclaimed 'Sovereign Prince of Sacovia'. Operation Vendetta divided the area into two zones:

  • Frontier Zone: The area outside the borders of the Duchy. This area is intended to be captured by the First Tundra Battalion and occupied to prevent a reemergence of any terrorist cells in the area. The area is suspected to have been fortified for some time prior, and so a larger direct attack force has been sent to this zone to wipe out any resistance with a front heavy attack. The frontier zone's starting line is the edge of the Vețula Hills, but if the stated goals have not been accomplished by the time the forces reach the area, the operational line will expand until the objective is completed.
  • Home Zone: The area within the borders of the Duchy, currently under threat from the guerrilla fighting conducted by LONSS. The First Hill Battalion, trained to deal with the rough terrain of the Vețula Hills, has been sent to this zone to follow behind the frontier zone to provide protection to the civilan population, as well as remove any remaining terrorist cells. The battalion would spread out following the successful march of the soldiers in the frontier, to hunt down remaining terrorist sites. The home zone will expand following successful campaigns by the First Tundra Battalion, out to either the edge of the Vețula Hills, or until Ròneau d'Àgrôvia is captured and killed.

Caradia intends to capitalise on the territory captured from the insurgency by construction of additional military bases, in order to construct mines for the area's plentiful resources.

Operation Vendetta proceeded from the beginning with minor victories against small guerrilla skirmishes from LONSS. The forces of LONSS seemed disorganised and unsure of their tactics to leaders in the Legions. Attacks against the home zone ceased when the march started, as the soldiers proceeded into unclaimed territory. Problems began when larger battles started occuring in the more remote regions of Sacovia, with some of the nomadic tribes appearing to have disappeared, likely due to membership in LONSS. Progress came to a halt when it was discovered that LONSS had holed up in Custelo Àgrôvia-Sôvio, a castle that dated back over a thousand years, before the Sacovian populace became largely nomadic. The First Tundra Battalion retreated from the area when they were attacked with artillery fire from the castle which, although it was used by dated weaponry, made the position much more difficult to assault. The Cannon Corps was brought out of its preparatory phase and began a march to the castle, in order to begin a siege of the area. The First Hill Battalion spread out to ensure that ground gained during the first phase of the operation was not lost while the siege was prepared.

Siege on the castle lasted longer than expected. The terrorists appeared to be prepared for a sustained encounter, while the Caradian forces were expcting a quick victory. The siege ended up lasting six days, which caused the terrorist forces to become exhausted and finally surrender. It was discovered afterward, however, that large numbers of the terrorists had used the siege as a diversion to escape and scatter across Sacovia, taking Ròneau d'Àgrôvia with them.

After the siege, Operation Vendetta's main goal had been completed, as the terroristic forces had little cohesion after the siege, though they still existed. The Cannon Corps and First Hill Battalion were recalled, while the First Tundra Battalion continued patrolling through unclaimed Sacovia searching for Ròneau.

It was later determined that Ròneau had likely escaped out of Caplona via a hijacked patrol boat. The operation, while technically ongoing, effectively ended 24.VII.1678, since the Caradian Legions announced that the search for Ròneau would not proceed out of Caplona.

Proiect: Ceruri Arzătoare

Proiect: Ceruri Arzătoare (Eng.: Project: Burning Skies) is an ongoing military project funded and operated by the CNSC and taking place in Eura. While not a belicose operation, the project is still a major point in the development of the Caradian military.

The project, proposed by Field Marshal Cozaru Faragul, was instigated by the hesitance of the Caradian government to remain militarily lagging, especially in the face of surges in violence in other regions of the world, which, though distant and uninvolved with Caradia, present a precedent of the variety of weaponry which could be expected if armed conflict were to ever take place. This perceived military technological inferiority sparked the project, which aims to increase the ability of the Caradian military to fight and defend against long-range wars.

The project is divided into two parts, the first of which taking major priority over the other. The main goal of the project is to develop long-range ballistic missiles that are capable of being fired out to similar ranges as the railgun that the CSS Saint is equipped with (roughly 120 kilometres). The main idea is to serve as a deterrent to foreign nations who might find Caradia's current lacking of ballistic weaponry an indication that the Duchy presents, as was put by Marshal Faragul, an "easy target for colonisation and domination".

The second portion of the project is a proposed massive military base in Eura which would serve as both a launching point for the ballistic missiles which would have been constructed by then, as well as a new relocation for the military headquarters as a whole. Argint Citadel (the base's proposed name) would serve as a massive "superfortress" that could serve in the three main functions of: providing a storage location for mass amounts of weaponry, a home base for the abroad forces of the Caradian military, and a site for clandestine or especially massive military development projects.

Operation Heartland was declared on 3.VIII.1679 AN with the intention of capturing and securing Sacovia for the eventual annexation of the region as an expansion to the Principality of Leucio. The operation was only vaguely defined at the beginning, due to the perceived ease of victory over the dispersed forces present in the region. The only official directives declared at the beginning of the operation were the "eradication of resistance to the Caradian crown in the region of Sacovia which is currently unclaimed".

Progress was halted when forces sweeping through central Sacovia discovered a pit at the centre of a Dochvern ritual village. The pit came under intense scrutiny immediately due to its bizarre and unnatural nature. An immediate investigation was launched which cause Operation Heartland to briefly halt while the pit was investigated.

Once this area was secured, however, the operation proceeded across the rest of Sacovia. The remaining Dochvern proved little resistance, and, after the destruction of Ald-Arbora, there was very little preventing the Caradian soldiers' march across Sacovia. They fully secured the region by the beginning of V.1680 AN.
