Election of the President

The Presidential election was held following the legislative elections, between the leaders of all parties that attained over 10% of the available seats in Parliament. The Conservative Party were eliminated in the first round, and largely abstained from the second round of voting, wishing to back neither of the two leaders of the largest parties. This marked the first time in Mercury's history that any members of Parliament declined to cast a vote for the office of President.
