The Union Flag is one of the official symbols of the Franco-Batavian Empire.
Design and description
The flag displays three bars of equal width. All bars in the flag are the same height, so each lane takes up one third of the surface area. And has a width-length ratio of 3:5.
Colour specifications
The exact colour specifications of the Union Flag are not laid down by law. But the colours are derived from the flags of the full members and a dependent member, which are also not specified by law. On the basis of official publications, a corporate design can be recognised, so the following colours have been specified:
| Colour description | RGB (decimal) | RGB (hexadecimal) | RGB (colour) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Very dark blue | 0, 0, 81 | 00 00 51 | |
| Strong red | 191, 16, 18 | bf 10 12 | |
| Vivid orange | 255, 153, 51 | ff 99 33 |
So these colours are derived from other flags, namely:
-
Very dark blue from the flag of the United Kingdom of Arcadia, the Beneluccas and the land of the Calbain
-
Strong red from the flag of the Frankish Empire
-
Vivid orange from the flag of the Kingdom of Batavia
In turn, the flags of Arcadia and Francia are derived from other flags:
-
Very dark blue from the flag of Calbion
-
Strong red from the flag of the Kingdom of Amokolia, which was also called West Amokolia, between 1672 – 1678 AN
-
The flag of Victorian Amokolia between 1559 – 1574 AN, from which the red colour of the flag of the Kingdom of Amokolia was derived.
Unsuccessful proposals
Several designs were prepared, but were not chosen:
-
A combination of the colours of Batavia and Francia in a hemmed Nordic cross with the Vinandy seal at the crossing
-
A combination of the flags of Batavia and Francia in a 2:3 ratio
-
A diagonal combination of the flags of Amokolia and Batavia
-
A horizontal bicolour with the colours of Batavia and Francia
-
A flag consisting of seven red horizontal stripes, done by orange stripes, with in the canton a blue plane on which the Vinandy pigeon is placed
Another proposal was not to give the Union a flag of its own, but to mark the flags of its members:
-
The flag of Batavia with Union mark
-
The flag of Francia with Union mark
After the fall
After the fall of the Franco-Batavian Empire, the Union flag became the basis for the flag of the Emirate of Arbor.
