Operation Eastern Pennant was a field exercise of the Imperial Constancian Armed Forces to test the readiness of the 510th (Shahzamin) Army for battle, premised on the assumption of a sudden attack from external forces with zero time for preparation.
This was a timely exercise, as it surprisingly turned out to be the prelude for Operation Jungle Bolo.
Background
Shahzamin is a province of the Imperial State of Constancia established by Autokratorial Decree after Operation Paramount in 1698 AN, broadly congruent with the former Babkhan satrapy of the same name which had been destroyed during the 1598 Babkhan Holocaust.
The Sanpo-Çakar War reinforced to the local leadership just how porous the border was, and how vulnerable the province was to external aggression.
Prelude
The 510th (Shahzamin) Army was formed in Fort Ardashir Khan on 1698, under the command of Sarhang (Colonel) Periklês Metaxas, formerly of the 8th Syntagma of the Mihanokiniti Merarhia (Mechanised Division). Initially composed of Home Guard units formed by conscripts, its arming, equipping, and training was soon prioritized when the Basileus Giamousi made known his concern of a potential threat in light of the Sanpo-Çakar War and the 1715–1716 eruption of Mount Broadshaw.
X-Day
At his own request and upon recommendation of his daughter the Governor, Bjørn Hendriksson was called to active duty on 2.I.1711, promoted to the rank of Sepahbod (Lieutenant-General), and assumed command of the 510th (Shahzamin) Army.
