8th Cortes Federales

The 8th Cortes Federales represents the latest session of the Cortes Federales of Nouvelle Alexandrie, the legislature of Nouvelle Alexandrie. The composition of its lower house was determined by the results of the 1729 general election. The upper house continues to consist of the Federation's nobility, seated in the Chamber of Peers of Nouvelle Alexandrie. Following the Proclamation of Punta Santiago, the Cortes convened for the first time in 1694 AN and operates under the stipulation that the maximum term of the Cortes spans 5 AN years following the prior general election.

Election & Formation

The 8th New Alexandrian general election took place from 1.XII.1729 AN to 3.XII.1729 AN, setting the stage for the formation of the 8th Cortes Federales.

The Santini government outlined a government agenda through the Government Delivery Plan, with a wide variety of priorities for each department, including:

  2. Reduction of (violent) crime and improving safety on the streets;
  3. Controlling public spending and reforming taxes to be fairer and more sustainable;
  4. Enhancing global security through persistent engagement and response to crises;

  7. Reducing greenhouse emissions and reaching net zero by 1750;
  8. Improving healthcare outcomes by providing high-quality and sustainable care;

  10. Providing the best start in life through high-quality early education and childcare
  11. Improving connectivity throughout the nation and improving confidence in the transport network;
  12. Unleashing innovation and scientific discovery throughout the country;

Major Initiatives

Federal National Plans

The flagship policy vessel of the Santini government were the so-called Federal National Plans, four major policy programs meant to invest, reform, and upgrade the fields of Infrastructure, Healthcare, Police & Interior, and the Armed Forces. They were presented in 1730 AN. Together, these plans represented an overall commitment of over €1.37 trillion in investment, with a further breakdown of:

  1. Infrastructure Plan: €349.3 billion
  2. Health Plan: €384 billion
  3. Plan for the Police: €203 billion
  4. Plan for the Armed Forces: €440 billion

By 1740 AN, the plans had been officially completed with tangible results. For the Infrastructure Plan, major achievements included the construction of AV Lyrica, the Isles of Caputia Belt Bridge, and more than 8,400 km of non-highway roads; the opening of Ravaillac International Airport and 18 other (regional) airports; 166 km of new artificial waterways; and 913 new bus stops.

Major achievements in the Health Plan included the construction of Santa Teresa Hospital in Kedah and 15 other (regional) hospitals, of which 5 academic; The recruitment of over 43,000 new professionals; an investment of over €1.84 billion in medical science; An additional 4,687 inpatients beds nationwide; Over 200 new active clinical trials hosted; 2,234 GP and community health centres renovated; and over 87 million screenings, of which 2.1 million/year in regional healthcare.
