A referendum was being held in New Batavia from March 11 to March 12, 2021 to amend the Constitution of New Batavia.

The question on the ballot was Bent u akkoord met het amendement van de grondwet zoals het nu voorligt? (Do you approve the constitutional amendment presently proposed?)

Background

When the IRP-DSB cabinet wished to join the Micras Treaty Organization, they realized it's not handy to keep translating multilateral treaties, annexes, ancillaries, etc. into Dutch. They proposed to amend the constitution to be able to approve multilateral treaties in another language than Dutch. The Islamic Diwan gave a negative advice on the proposal, but the Majlis-ash-Shoera approved it nevertheless.

Amendement

Artikel 6 bis: Het zal voor multilaterale verdragen toegestaan zijn om deze verdragen in een andere internationale taal dan het Nederlands aan te nemen.

Electoral Commission

The Grand Vizier appointed to the Electoral Commission:

Positions

Both the Islamic Revolutionary Party, the Democratic Social Movement and the South Corum Independence Party supported the amendment. Frans, however, didn't agree with his party and disapproved the amendment.

Result

The amendment was approved by 80% of the voters. The voter turnout was disappointing. It was believed that New Batavians were more occupied with the economic consequences of the resettlement of the Southern Corum areas and the lack of government interest in the settler's demands.
