The The Hexarchy national football team is the football team which represents the micronation of The Hexarchy. It is a member of the EMUFA.
History
The team was founded in mid-2020 after The Hexarchy's Micrasian claim was successful.
Chronological competitive participation
Players
Prior to 2021, the team's players were chosen through the Six Nations Football League, a four-team domestic competition in which the annual regional champions qualify to represent The Hexarchy as a whole. The qualifying national team for 2020 was the Ashtaroth Eagles. This was the first and last such match used to qualify for direct FMF participation. Per a rare executive order issued by the Praetor, the team was permanently made the national football team.
Following the 2021 FMF World Cup, the Six Nations League was to send players to gradually form a permanent national team to assume the Eagles' name to avoid international confusion in future world-level tournaments. Winners of the most recent annual national Six Nations Cup receive first right to send players to the national team to fill any vacancies.
Given its second-place status in the previous tournament, Pyrax United was awarded the right to fill the first vacancy. It exercised this right almost immediately in early 2021, after the previous goalkeeper, Izami Haruhashi, was accused of, and found, to be using steroids before the first match 2021 FMF World Cup qualifications was to be held. As Haruhashi had never participated in a match, international backlash was narrowly avoided. In a controversial decision, it sent Hammurabi Pilagga-Gilgamesh Bel-Marduk to fill that Player #4 spot. The new backup goalkeeper was none other than one of several sons of the country's Praetor, who (instead of politics) had chosen the life of a professional athlete.
The team's composition for the 2021 qualifying matches is listed below. The squad consists of 25 players, with Belshazzar Bel-Dagon acting as the captain and Kara Arad-Indash as the current vice-captain. The captain and vice-captain always wear numbers 1 and 2, respectively. During the team's initial formation, the rest were allotted numbers 3-25 in order of their military or social rank. In 1694 AN, the numbers were shifted to reflect a player's position on the team. Afterwards, numbers are immediately given to the first player that fills the respective vacancy.
The team is known for its heavy use of the uncommon 5-2-3 formation. While on first glance it leaves the center quite open, the defense is packed and allows for a wide range of offensive plays across the entirety of the field. The team captain (always a forward) is tasked with leading the offense from the center. Since this requires an extraordinary amount of work, the team's vice captain is nearly always a defender or a goalkeeper.
In matches with stronger teams, the captain shifts to center position, and the formation then becomes 5-3-2 during certain portions of the game where the team will attempt to wear down the opponent by starving them of the ball's possession on their home side of the field before the forwards attempt to score goals.
Kit
The team's home colours are those found in the national flag: blue and yellow. There is no standard away kit, with the team instead using the colours of the qualified representative club; this is currently the Ashtaroth Eagles' red and black. Zathara Fashion Co. is the official manufacturer of the team's apparel.
Stadium
The team itself is nominally headquartered in multiple sites, usually according to who qualifies at the national level. The cities of Azul'an, Kobol, Kanaloa, Ashtaroth, and Enkidu serve as the headquarters of each respective regional team, with others hosting visiting arenas of their own. In reality, once qualified, the national team rarely travels to other cities than Kobol, Kanaloa, or Ashtaroth during their tenure as champions of the Six Nations League as these are the sites of the three dedicated stadiums in the country currently set aside for international matches. The one most often in use is Eventide's Kobol Stadium, on a popular resort island to the west of the eponymous city mostly dedicated to outdoors and sporting activities. It is also commonly called the "Gilgamesh Stadium" by the locals, as he was the one whose assets made the country's first and only specialized football stadium a possibility. The second is located in Kanaloa, Elam, and is a multipurpose stadium usually used for far less innocuous sports than association football. International matches are rarely held here, due to costs associated with traveling to and visiting the city. The newest stadium, completed in late 1688 AN, is located in Ashtaroth.
