The Athlon national football team is the football team which currently represents the Natopian autonomous territory of Athlon, and previously represented the Eastern Natopian autonomous territory and Gralan protectorate of the same name. The team is a member of the CTFA, after originally being affiliated to the AEFA, and is run by the Athlonian Division.

The team has existed twice in the FMF's history; firstly between late 2007 and mid-2008 as a protectorate of Gralus, and secondly since 2010 as a territory of Natopia and Eastern Natopia.

History

Athlon applied successfully to join the FMF after becoming a protectorate of Gralus in late 2007 after seceding from Natopia. The team competed in the qualifiers for the 2008 FMF World Cup, where they finished third in their group with nine points.

After Athlon rejoined Natopia in early 2008, the national team was integrated into the Natopian side following that year's qualifiers. However, due to increased autonomy granted in 2010, the Athlonian team gained FMF membership for the second time. Following this, the team competed in the 2011 World Cup qualifiers, again finishing their group in third place.

The team improved in the following year's qualifying, finishing second in their five-team group with 14 points, ahead of débutants Freedomia on goal difference. In doing so, the team sealed their place in the first ever Copa Apollonia, where they could only finish bottom of their group after losing all of their matches.

In 2013's qualifiers, the team finished third in their five-team group with ten points.

The team finished fifth in their six-team qualifying group with eight points in 2014. Athlon switched allegiance to the CTFA confederation soon afterwards.

In the 2015 qualifiers, the team topped their five-team group with 19 points and qualified for their first World Cup at the sixth attempt. The team were less successful in the finals, as they finished fourth in their group with just one win to their name and failed to advance.

The qualifying rounds for CiboTap 2016 saw the team finish third in their five-team group with ten points.

Athlon finished second in their five-team 2017 FMF World Cup qualification group with 14 points.

The team competed in the 2018 CiboTap Championships qualification rounds, where they topped their five-team group unbeaten with 22 points to qualify for the finals. At CiboTap 2018, the team could only finish bottom of their group after losing all three matches.

In the 2019 World Cup qualifiers, the team finished second in their five-team group with 14 points.

In the following year's CiboTap qualifiers, the team finished third in their four-team group with five points.

Ahead of the 2021 World Cup qualifiers, in late 2020, the team entered the inaugural edition of the Raspur Pact Nations League and competed in its second tier, finishing bottom of their four-team group with three points to be relegated. In the qualifiers, the team placed third in their six-team group with twelve points.

In the following year's CiboTap qualifiers, the team finished third in their five-team group with nine points. Soon afterwards, Athlon became a territory of Eastern Natopia following Natopia's split.

Athlon again became a Natopian territory after the nation reunified in early 2023 during the team's World Cup qualifying campaign. Those qualification rounds saw the team finish fifth in their six-team group with eight points.

The team competed in the CiboTap 2024 qualifiers the following year, where they placed third in their six-team group with eleven points, ahead of East Zimia and the Wallis Islands on goal difference.
