Treaty between Hurmu and Kurum Ash-Sharqia
The Treaty of friendship and non-aggression between Hurmu and the Sultanate of Kurum Ash-Sharqia is a treaty between Hurmu and Kurum Ash-Sharqia. It was signed on 9.X.1702 in Vrijplaats by Jan Spiik, on behalf of the Senate of the Lakes, and Grand Vizier Faisal Van Looveren on behalf of the Sultan of Kurum Ash-Sharqia.
Background
After Kurum Ash-Sharqia's secession from New Batavia, Hurmu and Kurum Ash-Sharqia had no relations. However, the Sultan of Kurum Ash-Sharqia, Salah Ad-Din Al-Lusirni, married Elisabeth Asara, daughter of Mahmud bin Alsalam, Emir of Arbor, and thus the Sultan became a member of the Order of the Holy Lakes. Moreover, Elisabeth Asara, now Princess Consort, is the sister of Karel Kyle des Vinandy, a Senator of the Lakes, with descent of blood from the founder of the Order of the Holy Lakes. It became evident for both Hurmu and Kurum Ash-Sharqia that diplomatic relations would become inevitable. As such, on 5.X.1702, Senator Jan Spiik, chair of the Senate's diplomatic committee, flew to Vrijplaats to discuss the formation of new diplomatic relations between the two countries. He was received by the Sultan and Princess Consort before meeting Grand Vizier Faisal Van Looveren. The two men discussed the matter for a few days, and negotiated a treaty, one that was based on the Treaty between Hurmu and New Batavia, that they signed on 9.X.1702.
After the singing ceremony, Jan Spiik was presented with the Grand Cordon of the Order of As-Saif.
