North Lyrica is a Region of the Federation of Alduria and the Wechua Nation. It borders the states of South Lyrica to the south, the Captive Sea to the east, and the Pond Isle and Strait to the west, and the Lyrican Green to the north. The regional capital is the city of Beaufort, the first settlement in the Region.
North Lyrica's history is rich and ancient. The Lyrican island is named after an ancient people that formed a nation called Lyrica. They came to rule and unite the entire island into one. The ancient capital of Lyrica is now the site of the Alduro-Wechua city of Montchéry.
For reasons unknown to modern historians, the powerful Lyrican Republic collapsed and much of the island descended into a state of Greenery for quite some time. It was during this period that around its northernmost lakes, the nation of Hurmu rose, a nation that still lives to this day under the protection of Craitland. Later on, the island came to see the birth of a new nation called Stormark. Its capital, Haraldsborg, was located about the same latitude as the old [[LyricaLyrican capital, but on the opposite coast of the island. Stormark came to dominate the island and its immediate environs, building an Empire that spanned the Micran globe that unraveled just as the Federation of Alduria and the Wechua Nation in 1675 AN.
The collapse of Stormark and later nearby Krasnocoria led to a power vacuum in the area that resulted in the rise of the city-state of International Mandate for the Settlements in Apollonia and later Sylvania. The island's rich resources and strategic position (along key internal Alduria-Wechua routes and international routes) soon made for an attractive prospect for settlement and expansion for the growing and ambitious Alduro-Wechua Federation. This led to the establishment of the Region of North Lyrica around its first settlement, the city of Beaufort.
The settlement of North Lyrica was largely funded by the federal government of Alduria-Wechua. Through its ambitious and well-financed New Prosperity Plan, the federal government engaged private companies, real estate developers, and some of the surviving settlement companies from the nation's recent territorial expansions to build an ambitious plan to resettle millions of stateless persons, usually Alexandrians, Caputians, and Wechua through the Law of Graces. Soon after its founding, ambitious plans were presented to the Federal Constituent Assembly to settle larger swathes of the island and build more settlements. This led to a dramatic expansion westward for the Region.
The Region of North Lyrica was settled and expanded only 5 AN years after the collapse of Stormark and the process of settlement and construction of the Region received a large infusion of infrastructure spending from the New Prosperity Plan to the tune of WAE€27 billion, almost 80% of it financed by a fresh issue of New Prosperity Plan bonds called the Lyrican Reconstruction Bonds, issued in 1688 AN, and three times throughout 1689 AN.
Etymology
The name of Lyrica has its origins in the rise of the Lyrican Republic, considered by many as a formative moment in ancient Micras. The island came to be called Lyrica, passing the name beyond the end of the Lyrican Republic and through the annals of Micran history to today.
