Rail transport in Nouvelle Alexandrie is found in all of its Keltian territories, Euran possessions, and on the island of Lyrica.
The Islas de la Libertad and the Isles of Caputia and currently have no railway networks, as of 1713 AN.
Railways operate in three different styles:
- InterCity: using high-speed trains to connect cities, bypassing all intermediate stations, thus linking major population hubs in the fastest time possible.
- Express: calling at some intermediate stations between cities, serving larger urban communities.
- Regional: calling at all intermediate stations between cities, serving smaller communities along the route.
Network
National Alexandrie Railways
The bulk of the rail infrastructure (92%) is owned by the state owned company Nouvelle Alexandrie Railways, who are responsible for the maintenance of the network. NAR also controls most of the passenger and freight companies that operate in Nouvelle Alexandrie, with exceptions for international services running into the country.
All rails are built with standard gauge (1,435 mm, 4 ft 8 1⁄2 in) widths. Most of the network is electrified, except in most parts of Lyrica and parts of Valencia.
The network is vast, running between the major cities as intercity lines, but also with regional lines for smaller towns. There are two High Speed lines between Cárdenas and Parap/San Luis as well. Currently, HS rails are being constructed between Punta Santiago and Beauhamais as well. The lines are also highly interconnected with junctions in several main cities. Commuters take the trains often in Nouvelle Alexandrie. NAR pushes itself to being punctual and reliable, having 96% of trains running with less than 5 minutes delay. Recompensation is required for travellers delayed by over 30 minutes.

Fares
Riders pay a fee for every station that they pass. There is a flat rate regardless of how far or how long the rider travels. There is a mixed system that utilizes both physical tickets, as well as a Contactless smart card known as NAR-Card. The tickets and card, as well as smartphones, can be swiped at readers at turnstiles. The location of the turnstiles differ between stations: some are located at the entry to station buildings, others are located at the staircases to platforms. Smaller stations don't have turnstiles: in these, readers are located on poles. Conductors read the tickets, cards, or smartphones during the trip during regular check-ups.
As of 1708 AN, the base fare is NAX€4,00. Reduced fares are available for the elderly and people with disabilities. For reference: the longest distance by train (Artés-Judah) is NAX€47,00 for 1st Class.
Train services consist of two services: First and Second Class. Second Class is the mainstay version used by 80% of passengers. First Class has several amenities: more leg space, comfortable seats, and outlets for chargers. They are also less crowded than Second Class.
The seats placed in the entry hall of the train are considered Second Class.
