Three in Three Program

The 3 in 3 Program, officially the Integrated Defense System Program (IDSP), was initially an initiative in the United Kingdom of Meckelnburgh to increase defense expenditures to 3% of GDP in three years, by Januarie/I.1738 AN. Officially announced in Mercedone/III.1734 AN, the program was authorized in Marche/IV by the Parliament of Meckelnburgh as the Integrated Defense Systems Act (1734 AN). The emphases of the 3 in 3 Program was to reinforce the defense of Meckelnburgh constituent Branniboria and provide expansive growth to the Royal Meckelnburgh Navy, amongst all defense programs. As the program developed, it became increasingly known by its legal name, continuing to fund broader defense expansion through the 1750s AN. Some of the largest growth has included the expansion of Nautholsvik Naval Shipyard.

Background

Per capita defense spending on the uniformed services of Meckelnburgh had fallen since the annexation of Branniboria in 1728 AN, growing the kingdom's total population by 16%. Relative stability on the Apollonian continent decreased proactive measures to expand defense apparatuses to Esthar for half a decade. At its lowest point, defense spending in Meckelnburgh dropped to around 2% of GDP.

The year 1733 AN brought concerns about the Mecklenburgish approach to defense. The 1733 Senyan protests erupted in June/VII across the narrow strait between Branniboria and the normally calm nation of Senya, prompting closures of direct air links from the island. In Septembre/XI, on the continent of Benacia, the Streïur uis Faïren erupted between the Benacian Union and Shireroth, resulting in a nuclear war at the cost of millions of lives. Shireroth also held expansive territories on Apollonia, including the County of Camoleo on Tallandor Bay—the entrance being bordered by Meckelnburgh on both shores.
