Operation Greenpoint is the name given to the ongoing military conflict in the Green as elements of the Moorland Armed Forces work to secure the northern peninsular tip of the former Anahuacan state of Pavón around the city of Aldama.
Background
Following the events of the East Keltian Collapse and Anahuacan diaspora, Moorland was left isolated by the collapse of friendly neighbors Anahuaco and Normark. While a strong relationship with Mercury had helped to stabilize the northeastern corner of Keltia, the economic impact of these events had severely wounded Moorland's ability to project itself overseas with its ongoing efforts in the South Sea Islands and on Hypernostria. Friendly refueling stations along the Keltian coast disappeared overnight. The absence of a friendly and stable government in Anahuaco also threatened Moorland's ocean routes with piracy. As such, King MacMartin authorized the seizure of the peninsula around the city of the Aldama, both as. means to repair and restore the former port city and to secure the ocean route out of Taylor Bay that is frequented by Moorlander vessels.
Major Battles
The Westmarch
Elements of the Southmoor Garrison were dispatched to move east along the southern border of Huntsland. These forces were instructed to secure a 3km corridor along the southern shore of the Bay of Hunters. These forces met little resistance besides destitute Anahuacans and roving bandits. Most of these were either easily fended off by the larger Moorlander force or pacified with the guarantee of Moorland's investment into alleviating the local poverty. Thus within a week they were able to secure a path across the southern bay into the Greenpoint Peninsula (Punto Verde in the local tongue). In the meantime, Battlegroup Newhaven was deployed to ferry the Royal Commandos across the bay to land on the outskirts of Aldama.
As the land route across the bay was secured, reservists were brought in from the National Fryd along with the Aerist Militia to take up forward positions and prepare for securing the peninsula while the Southmoor Garrison secured the corridor by fortifying their positions.
Green Arrow
The Aerists spearheaded the ground offensive into the southern tier of the peninsula while the Commandos entered the ruins of Aldama to secure the city and its immediate environs. What the commando forces found in Aldama was a city that had faced the destitution of the East Keltian Collapse at its most profound. The inhabitants, those who hadn't fled to neighboring countries during the diaspora, were starving and facing a complete collapse of humanitarian conditions. Clean water, electricity, medicine and access to food had become cut-off due to the collapse of the central government. In addition, looters and bandits roamed the city, vandalizing property and stealing from those who were less fortunate. It was both a shocking and depressing vision for the soldiers who entered the city. Resistance, if it could be called that, came mostly from thieves and vandals. General Merle Young of the commandos immediately called for an aid ship from Port Moorland be dispatched with provisions for the suffering civilians, and within three days a tanker loaded with supplies docked at the port while the commandos established a secure perimeter around the city. The relief, greatly welcomed by the locals, was seen as a capitulation towards the government of Moorland and saw what little resistance remained melt away as even the looters were starving at this point.
Meanwhile, the Aerists continued to edge forward into the more rural southern area of the peninsula. In the operation dubbed Green Arrow, they made a piercing maneuver into the south, securing the western coast and gradually moving north while fanning out east with the support of reservists forces who would move in and fortify areas liberated by the Aerists. The nature of the rough terrain and isolated villages, many of which were so small they didn't even appear on maps, made movement slow. They were, however, met with much of the same situation as the commandos in Aldama, seeing signs of severe destitution. For some of the more isolated villages, this was less evident, as these locations had long ago become self-sufficient. But the promise of a steady stream of supplies and aid from Moorland was often enough to sway opinion in Moorland's favor, and casualties were thankfully kept to a minimum.
Final Maneuvers
Facing very little resistance, Moorlander forces marched essentially unobstructed into Aldama and were able to secure the Greenpoint Peninsula with minimal loss of life. Roving mobs of bandits fled either to the Green or were rounded up by the MAF and placed in temporary detention centers where they would be given the opportunity to return to productive society. The coastal road from Huntsland to the peninsula was secured as the main mode of transit between the two areas, and allowed for a convoy of relief aid to be quickly sent to the area. This much needed assistance for civilians helped create an atmosphere of trust between the occupying Moorland force and the local Anahuacans. The greater majority welcomed the assistance and potential for a return to times that were better when Anahuaco was in its heyday.
King MacMartin visited the area four days after the capture of Aldama and announced that the peninsula would be formally attached to Huntsland under the local administration there. In a speech before the Aldama town square, he announced that Moorland would strive to restore the area to its former success and reconnect the port to the Trans-Keltian Express, allowing trade to resume both from the north and south to the new state of Vermejo. Repairs to damaged infrastructure from the East Keltian Collapse would also be funded by the Moorland government and trade revenues. In keeping with Moorlander law, Aldama will be granted the same rights as all other municipalities within the kingdom.
