Johnny Colaco is a Matabese-Dauian footballer who plays as a winger for Liga Mataba club MDFFC. Nicknamed the trickster, Johnny is part of the "Golden Generation" of Matabese footballers as nicknamed by local fans and pundits, of which including Pete Forrosuelo, Milto Yusafahizadamazamjure, Singh Rahman, Raphael Merkies and Prabhat Llamar.
He is also the first ever ethnically Matabese to ever step foot on the Daau Super League.
Club Career
Born in the Matabese region of Inner Mataba, Johnny would be given a chance to play in the Daau professional league system at the age of 15 when he was scouted by Daau United in the summer training camps. He would join Daau United in the following weeks and would move away from Mataba to further develop himself in the Dauian leagues. He also made appearances in the All Dauian Cup.
Daau United
Johnny would kickstart his pro career with Dauian club Daau United's reserve side, playing 8 games in his first season while netting 3 times in the reserve league.
He would also make 13 appearances for the first team across his 3 year stay. On the start of the 2017-18 season, it was announced that Johnny had made the final squad for the Daau Super League and would be registered as a local player for Daau United. His first league goal came 2 games after his debut, netting against Bintang Lukana which won Daau United the game.
Cezero Negrata
Colaco would be signed by Cezero following a stunning 2019-20 season in the reserve league.
MDFFC
MDFFC would sign Johnny on a mere fee of Cr 10k from Cezero during the 2021-22 transfer window. Colaco however suffered an injury prior to joining and only made his debut in the 2022–23 season. He was named captain ahead of the season due to his leadership traits and his journeyman career. He would make his debut for the club in a 0-0 draw to Pahmer FC. He would score a brace in his second start against Valestir Bahlsa. He was awarded the Player of The Month for November as he score all of the club's goals in the league.
Johnny would claim the top scorer award for the 2023–24 Liga Mataba season as he topped the league with 23 goals in 27 games alongside 5 assists for his side as MDFFC finished second in the league.
International career
Colaco made his Mataba senior debut against Daau in the Dauian-Mataba Cup, playing both legs but failed to score a goal. His first goal came in a 3-1 defeat to neighbours Krasnovlac with him scoring early on in the game. Colaco however failed to make the cut for the 2023 FMF World Cup qualification rounds and was left out by coach Peter De Roo citing personal reasons. It was then announced that he would return to the national team later in the month
