The Institut Diplomatique de Punta Santiago (Martino: Instituto Diplomático de Punta Santiago; Alexandrian for Diplomatic Institute of Punta Santiago) is a graduate school in Punta Santiago, Alduria, that trains diplomats for the Department of State. Founded in 1695 AN, the Institut formalized the training of New Alexandrian diplomats, replacing the informal apprenticeship system that had characterized the early Aldurian foreign service.
When Alduria was founded in 1670 AN, the Transitional Government under President Alejandro Campos appointed its first ambassadors to nations including Natopia, Constancia, and Shireroth. These early diplomats learned their craft through direct experience, mentored by colleagues with backgrounds in commerce, law, or military service. As Alduria's diplomatic commitments expanded through integration with the Wechua Nation in 1685 AN and the subsequent formation of the Federation, the need for systematic training became apparent. The Diplomatic Guild of Nouvelle Alexandrie, founded in 1687 AN as a professional association for senior diplomats, advocated for formal training standards and helped shape the curriculum when senior members of the Aldurian diplomatic corps established the Institut in 1695 AN. The founding cohort of instructors included Guild members who were veterans of the negotiations that had produced the federation itself. The Institut and the Guild maintain close ties, with Guild members serving as guest lecturers and mentors for students, and Institut graduates typically joining the Guild after accumulating the requisite fifteen years of diplomatic service.
The Institut admits approximately 30 students annually to its two-year program, selected from candidates who pass the Foreign Service Examination administered by the Department of State. The curriculum includes diplomatic protocol, international law, foreign languages, negotiation, and regional studies. Students complete a six-month rotation at a New Alexandrian embassy or consulate before graduation. The Institut maintains exchange agreements with diplomatic academies in Natopia, Constancia, and Hurmu, and its faculty includes retired ambassadors and serving officials from the Department of State.
