Department of State (Nouvelle Alexandrie)
The Department of State is the department in charge of the foreign affairs of Nouvelle Alexandrie. Equivalent to the ministry of foreign affairs of other nations, its main duties comprise of administering diplomatic missions, negotiating agreements and treaties for the Federation, advising the King and the Premier, and representing Nouvelle Alexandrie abroad and at the Micras Treaty Organization. The department is headquartered in the East Meadow Tower Building, in the Government Triangle neighborhood of Cárdenas, FCD. The department was established in 1685 AN, it was one of the very first government departments formed after the founding of the Federation.
The Department of State also manages the Foreign Service of Nouvelle Alexandrie, issues passports and visas, provides diplomatic training and education to government and military officials, posts foreign travel advisories, and it administers a civilian intelligence agency, the Office of Research and Intelligence, and a diplomatic law enforcement agency, the Corps of Diplomatic Security. The Department of State also operates the National Diplomatic School and regularly hosts international conferences to promote more dialogue and coordination with Raspur Pact allies and other partners, the most prominent of them the annual meeting of the Council for Peace. The Council of Peace is a citizen's advisory committee commissioned by the King to advise him and the Council of State.
It is headed by the Secretary of State, who is appointed by the King on the advice of the President of the Government who is also a member of the Council of State.
The position of Secretary of State is considered an extremely prestigious position in the Council of State. They are third in the line of succession to the President.
