Department of Research and Development (Nouvelle Alexandrie)
The Department of Research and Development, formerly known as the Department of Science, is the federal department responsible for setting and coordinating policy on science, technology, industrial strategy, and innovation within Nouvelle Alexandrie. The Department oversees National Science Initiatives, Patents, Trademarks, Copyright Law, and Intellectual Property.
Established in 1689 AN, the Department initially operated as the Department of Science before evolving into its current form to reflect broader responsibilities, including technology innovation and industrial strategies. The headquarters remains located in the Morning Wind Building, situated in the Government Triangle neighborhood of Cárdenas, FCD.
The Department collaborates extensively with other government agencies:
- With the Department of Education, Culture, and Sports, and on initiatives relating to science education and fostering innovation.
- With the Department of Defense on military research, advanced technology, and strategic innovation.
- With the Department of Energy and Environment to manage domestic civil nuclear programs, agricultural innovations, ecological research, and sustainability initiatives.
The Department is led by the Secretary of Research and Development, appointed by the King on the recommendation of the President of the Government. The Secretary is a member of the Council of State, and the position is equivalent to ministers of science and technology found in other nations.
