Giess Transportation Company (GTC) is a multinational transportation and logistics corporation headquartered in Punta Santiago, Nouvelle Alexandrie. Founded in 1520 AN as a government-owned enterprise in Alexandria, GTC has evolved from its origins as an interplanetary transportation network to become one of the largest freight and logistics company on Micras. The company currently operates in transportation markets in Natopia, Nouvelle Alexandrie, Oportia, and several other Micran nations as of 1733 AN.

History

The Giess Transportation Company was established in 1520 AN by an act of the Alexandrian Parliament. Its initial mandate was to develop and operate a revolutionary system of transportation gates connecting Alexandrian territories on Micras with those on the planet Giess. Within three years, GTC had successfully established a network of 50 gates, revolutionizing interplanetary travel and commerce for Alexandria. The system's unprecedented success led to its privatization in 1556 AN under First Consul Jose Frias. This move netted over 500 billion Alexandrian ecu for the government, which retained patents and lucrative deals related to the company's technologies. The privatization of GTC is often cited as a pivotal moment in Micran economic history, marking the birth of the first truly interplanetary corporation.

Following privatization, GTC leveraged its transportation expertise to expand into terrestrial and aerial freight services. By 1600 AN, the company had invested over 1 trillion ecu in Alexandria's transportation infrastructure, becoming the de facto national carrier for both passengers and cargo. GTC's fleet grew to include 5,000 aircraft and 50,000 ground vehicles during this period. The collapse of the Giess project in 1609 AN dealt a severe blow to GTC's operations, wiping out 70% of its revenue overnight. The company faced a financial crisis, leading to its temporary renationalization under Prime Minister Felicia Sanchez Sanchez. During this period, GTC was restructured to focus on its Micran transportation networks, shedding 60% of its workforce but retaining its core technological expertise. By 1651 AN, when the Empire of the Alexandrians fell due to the Alexandrian flu pandemic, GTC had recovered much of its former strength. The company's annual revenue had rebounded to 300 billion ecu, with operations spanning many countries across Micras.

In the wake of Alexandria's collapse, GTC relocated its headquarters to Triegon, Natopia. Shortly after, the company was acquired by SATCo for 411 billion Natopian natopo, becoming a key subsidiary of the Natopian conglomerate. This acquisition provided GTC with the stability and resources needed to weather the loss of its primary market and expand into new territories. Under SATCo. ownership, GTC expanded its operations to Nouvelle Alexandrie in 1686 AN and Oportia in 1720 AN. By 1733 AN, GTC had a workforce of 1 million employees.

A landmark breakthrough came in 1735 AN when GTC, in collaboration with Dingo Enterprises and Javelin Industries, successfully developed new gate technology capable of connecting points within Micras. This innovation relied heavily on the use of Alexandrium, a novel element discovered in Eura. The development of this intra-Micras gate system marked GTC's return to cutting-edge transportation technologies.

Operations

As of 1733 AN, GTC's operations span several key areas:

  • Freight and Logistics: The company's core business, offering comprehensive shipping and supply chain solutions across Micras. GTC handles over 1 billion packages annually, with a 98.5% on-time delivery rate.
  • Advanced Technologies: GTC invests 10% of its annual revenue in research and development, focusing on transportation technologies and often partnering with defense contractors and government agencies.
