Claudius Verion is an Elwynnese nobleman, he is the son of the Blackstonian-Shirithian nobleman and politician Ludovic Verion and Brettish-born Arwen May Sherrinford-de Montfort. Claudius Verion serves as Count of Cimmeria and Illumination since 1741, a stronghold of the House of Verion for centuries. He serves as the Prefect of Upper Elwynn since 1758.
Early life and career
Claudius Verion was born the youngest son of Ludovic Verion and Arwen May Sherrinford-de Montfort. Ludovic's prospects in Shireroth had dwindled following the Oustfest Massacre of 1644, after which he traveled around the Imperial Republic, only to settle in the Verionist Republic after the Kalirion Fracture. Following the Great Disaster, Ludovic moved to Blackstone with his wife. Here Claudius was born in 1684. Claudius' early years were spend on Blackstone. At age 19, he moved to Cimmeria to study history at Lewis College. Here, Claudius became fascinated with the history of Northern Elwynn, and especially with the role that the Verion family has played in the last centuries. He also became determined to restore Elwynn to glory following the destruction of the Second Elwynnese Civil War and the Scouring. From then on, he embarked on a political journey, becoming first Major of Wolfraven, and then of Azshara, before being named Count of Cimmeria and Illumination in 1741. Due to his ambition, and him rising to high office, he was nicknamed "the Young Elu". At the third son of Ludovic Verion, and the younger brother of Hildebrand Verion, Claudius is unlikely to obtain the title of "Elu", or head of the House of Verion in reality.
Count of Cimmeria and Illumination
As Count, Claudius sought to re-introduced some Verionist principles of governance, but also maintaining the balance between the native groups that managed to gain more political influence in the wake of the Scouring and the collapse of much of central control, such as the Elfinshi and the Cimmerians. One of Claudius' more notable achievements was the re-building of the road network in the North, where he ensured that once again the main population hubs were well connected for automated travel.
Prince of Elwynn
Following the Golden Bull, proclaimed by Kaiser Ayreon VI, Shireroth underwent a period of re-feudalisation. This reverted some centralising tendencies of the previous Imperial governments. Part of the new policy was to reinstate the Imperial States, as Imperial Dominions. Claudius Verion, being one of the chief nobles of Elwynn, and serving as Prefect of the Imperial Dominion, was named the Prince of Elwynn in 1758.
His first policies were to rebuild the Elwynnese institutions of old, such as the Council of Eliria, and to move the capital of Elwynn to a rebuild New Eliria. Other infrastructure projects were the Elw Road, a road network to connect all Elwynn's Counties, and the erection of the Verionskeep castle, home to the Prince and the Council of Eliria.
