Aquaria Modernization and Expansion Program
The Aquaria Modernization and Expansion Program (Crandan: Programma fonn Modernizatie en Uitbreideng fonn Aquaria; abbreviated AMEP) is a capital program to refurbish and expand the Aquaria Nuclear Generating Station near Johannsessbuurg in the Free Duchy of Anglien. Authorized by the Diet of Anglien under the Aquaria Modernization Act of 14.II.1755 AN, the program combines a life-extension refurbishment of the station's two original Lac Glaceian-era reactors with the construction of two new units, the addition of desalination and district-heating infrastructure, and the training of a domestic nuclear workforce through the Technical Institute of Anglien. It is the largest single capital project of the duchy's post-Charter reconstruction, with full completion targeted for 1768 AN.
In V.1757 AN the Council of Ministers of Anglien announced that the program's two new units would be Alexandrium Cascade reactors, the first deployment of the New Alexandrian design outside the Federation and the first Alexandrium reactors of any kind built in Anglien or in all of Apollonia. The Cascade design, certified for commercial use by the New Alexandrian National Energy Commission in IV.1755 AN, draws far more usable energy from its Alexandrium-239 fuel than earlier reactor types. The announcement was tied to a New Alexandrian investment of approximately AM 12 billion in the new-build units, which, as of 1757 AN, is the largest single foreign investment recorded in the duchy since the promulgation of the Charter of Anglien.
Alexandrium Cascade units
The two new reactors, designated Units 3 and 4, are Alexandrium Cascade reactors developed in Nouvelle Alexandrie. They are the first reactors of the type to be built outside the Federation. The Council of Ministers has stated that the two units, once in service, will together be capable of meeting substantially all of Anglien's domestic electricity demand, allowing the station's original Glacei Electric boiling water reactors to supply the western Lac Glacei grid and eventually freeing capacity for export.
The New Alexandrian National Energy Commission holds the principal technology stake in the new-build component. Construction and commissioning advisers are drawn from the New Alexandrian nuclear program, with Anglian operating staff trained alongside them and through the Technical Institute of Anglien's nuclear engineering course. Site works for Unit 3 began in late 1757 AN.
Financing
The program is financed through sovereign Anglian bonds, supplementary CATO grant transfers, and equity participation by industrial consortia from Natopia and Constancia, alongside the New Alexandrian investment in the new-build units. Total program cost is estimated at AM 16 to 18 billion.
