Albrecht Thiudimir von Harrach (born 1697 AN), a meritorious subject of the Governorate of Austland, is a senior military commander within the Land Forces of the Benacian Union, currently holding the rank of Frainan Streïakeï. At fifty-seven years of age in 1754 AN, he serves as the commanding officer of Hohmgruppe Endsieg, directing the Union's primary operational efforts in the protracted conflict against the Kalgachi National Uprising.

Biography

Early Life and Education

Von Harrach was born into a traditional, land-holding family in the Bailiwick of Angularis that traces its lineage to the martial nobility of the Imperial Republic of Shireroth. Following the Kalirion Fracture, the ancient Shirerithian imperial titles that had once adorned his ancestors were officially suppressed by the Unified Governorates. However, the fundamentally elitist and anti-egalitarian nature of the Nationalist and Humanist (N&H) regime ensured that loyal martial lineages were not discarded. Stripped of their imperial peerages but retaining their estates, the 'von' prefix, and their inherent social capital, families like the Harrachs were actively co-opted to form the professional backbone of the new order's officer corps.

Inducted into the Benacian Union Defence Force after graduating from the Benacian Academy in 1720 AN, von Harrach was selected for officer training without requirement for the purchasing of his commission. After undergoing officer training and ideological conditioning, he received a rare exit visa for enrollment in the Royal Military Academy of Nouvelle Alexandrie. Whilst in Parap he demonstrated a marked aptitude for mathematics, logistics, and staff-level planning. Graduating near the top of his class, he was commissioned into the Honourable Artillery Regiment of the Saznan Bivarhins on his return, being fast tracked into the traditional General Staff system dominated by Benacia Command, where his patrician background was considered an asset rather than a liability.

Military Career and the Streïur uis Faïren

Von Harrach’s early career was defined by his methodical approach to the burgeoning mechanised doctrine of the BUDF. Throughout the 1720s, he served in various staff and command roles within the Saznan Bivarhins, internalising doctrines that favoured overwhelming material superiority and secure logistical lines over high-risk manoeuvres.

His defining ordeal arrived with the outbreak of the Streïur uis Faïren (Shiro-Benacian War). Elevated to tribune and ttached to the Special Task Force of the Confluence to provide coordination of artillery assets during the anticipated Siege of Shirekeep that never came, he instead found himself thrown into a maelstrom as frantic efforts were made to stabilise the Benacian position in Alalehzamin following a devastating "limited" nuclear exchange. During the subsequent Elwynnese Frontier Campaign, which saw the virtual annihilation of the Northern and Western Banner Groups under the weight of the Imperial advance, von Harrach, then serving as a legate, distinguished himself through cold, calculated preservation.

Tasked with holding the rapidly collapsing salient along the River Elwynn, von Harrach orchestrated a brutal, scorched-earth fighting retreat back towards the fortified Sovereign Line. By relying on concentrated screens of howitzer fire and the ruthless, deliberate sacrifice of rearguard and conscript Elwynnese Militia to buy time, he successfully extracted the core of his mechanised assets from encirclement. In a military environment where supreme command frequently purged its officers for defeatism, von Harrach survived by presenting a meticulously documented, mathematically sound rationale for his retreat. This grim success in the face of continental disaster earned him his promotion to Frainan Uihmanzis (Corps Commander) and cemented his reputation as a master of attritional warfare.

Following the crippling losses of the Streïur uis Faïren, the Benacian Union was left severely weakened. The Unified Governorates were wracked by revolts, and the remnants of the BUDF were thrown into the fray to support the loyalist militias, Magisters-Carnifex, and cudgellers in beating down the myriad insurrections.

Von Harrach would gain notoriety during the 1740s on account of his willingness to use massed artillery fires in counterinsurgency operations – his theory being that, if the population at large was the strategic depth of the partisan, then disrupting the former would inhibit the operations of the latter.

Command of Hohmgruppe Endsieg

The ongoing vulnerability afflicting the Union-State, including a protracted economic crisis, contributed to the outbreak of the Kalgachi National Uprising in 1751 AN. As the conflict devolved into a slow-burn, resource-intensive siege across hostile, mountainous terrain, the Benacian High Command required a commander capable of prosecuting a grinding war of attrition using a depleted but heavily mechanised force.

With the formal constitution of Hohmgruppe Endsieg in 1754 AN, von Harrach was promoted to Frainan Streïakeï and assigned to lead the new formation. He is now tasked with directing the Army of Siyachia along with the 11th, 35th, and 37th Armies against the formidable Kalgachi subterranean and biomic defences. His approach to the campaign is characteristically systematic, relying heavily on his Chief of Artillery, Hildebrand Brenner, to level opposition strongpoints before committing his infantry to clear the ruins.

Political Standing

Despite his high rank, indispensable operational experience, and favoured patrician bloodline, von Harrach remains under intense scrutiny. The regime values his martial pedigree but remains suspicious of his clinical professionalism, which often precludes genuine N&H ideological zeal. He is a constant target of surveillance for the Consulate's Panopticon and his own embedded political officer, Severin Kross. Von Harrach navigates this dangerous environment by ensuring that his administrative compliance and civic metrics remain flawless, operating entirely by the book to deny his overseers any pretext for a tribunal. He remains a commander fighting on two fronts: the physical war of attrition against Kalgachia, and the bureaucratic war of survival within the Hvaszunig-Stab.
