Alalehzamin land recovery campaign
The Alalehzamin land recovery campaign was a project of the Benacian Union begun from 1730 AN in earnest, intended to reverse decades of environmental degradation in the region of Alalehzamin, a governorate within the realm of Elluenuueq. Of particular concern was the encroachment of the "cold desert" onto formerly well irrigated agricultural land which had subsequently fallen into disrepair through neglect.
The suspicion abided, in certain quarters, that the project was being used as a flimsy pretext to move large amounts of engineering equipment and manpower into southern Elluenuueq for another purpose entirely.
History
The civil executive of Elluenuueq had for decades complained to the Congress of Chryse and the High Presidium of the Benacian Union about the deteriorating condition of the natural environment in Alalehzamin. As Szodans of Elluenuueq had developed an unfortunate habit of falling afoul of the Magisters-Carnifex, it had been considered disappointing but not altogether surprising that Jahangir Khan had continued to complain in the same vein as his ill-fated predecessors. The commandment to the civil executive remained the same, appropriations were to be collected in the quantities required, with no excuses to be countenanced.
However, since formations of the Benacian Union Defence Force began to steadily accumulate around Shirekeep during the late 1720s after Norton, for reasons that were entirely reasonable, justifiable, and innocent, it was increasingly impossible to ignore the reports of eminent persons concerning the wretched condition of the countryside in the lower reaches of Alalehzamin.
In 1729 AN Cosmin Irrigazioni, a company of Vegno, was approached by representatives of the High Presidium of the Benacian Union with a request for proposals for the repair of the antique Neo-Babkhan irrigation network of Alalehzamin, which had fallen into disrepair following the Kalirion Fracture and the Second Elwynnese Civil War. Where once there had been productive farmland there was now increasingly only contaminated soil being subsumed into the expanding cold desert between the two branches of the River Elwynn.
