Branniboria (/bɹæn.nɪ.boɹ.i.ɑ/ bran-nih-BOR-ee-ah) is a northern Apollonian country that is part of the United Kingdom of Meckelnburgh. The state is one of four constituent countries that form the kingdom, along with the Prince-Archabbacy of Salem, Grand Duchy of Iselande and Meckelnburgh proper; the people of all four being Mecklenburgish citizens. It has a total area of about 76,800 km² (30,000 sqmi) with a population of 1.2 million as of 1728 AN. The capital and largest city is Alexandrople.

The country lies on the island of Esthar on the open Northern Sea, across from the Cape of Eternal Glory on the shores of Senya. The majority of the population is split between Alexandrople, along the south shore, and Neuw Frans, along the Northern Sea.

Branniboria is a unitary state organized in a single provincial entity. It is a parliamentary semi-constitutional monarchy with an empowered head of state, Queen of Meckelnburgh, Ĉielero III. The National Assembly is the unicameral legislative consisting of a common house, and the judiciary is headed by the High Court, which may be appealed to the Parliament of Meckelnburgh. The head of government is Prime Minister Daniëlle School, who is responsible to the Assembly. The Church of Meckelnburgh is the state religion.

Branniboria is the last constituent state in the Kingdom of Meckelnburgh, annexed in 1728 AN, consisting of Esthar and the territory of the collapsed Insulia state. As the largest constituent country outside of metropolitan Meckelnburgh, it is responsible for much of its devolved administration. Meckelnburgh is still responsible for wider functions, such as foreign affairs and armed forces. Because of the dispersion from the fall of Insulia, the population consists almost entirely of immigrants of ethnic Meckelnish.

Etymology

The name "Branniboria" derives from the Old Ocian terms "branni" and "bor," which combined meant "defensive forest." The term is expected to derive from the island of Esthar's massive evergreen forests and timber industry.

Branniboria was claimed as integral territory of the narrative of "Greater Meckelnburgh," and ownership of the island was demanded from the ruling nation of Voxland, later the Empire of Insulia, since 1689 AN. After the collapse of that nation in 1727 AN, Meckelnburgh interests demanded the immediate occupation of Esthar. That manifest destiny was accomplished on 15 Octobre/XII, 1728 AN when Esthar was annexed.

Climate

The United Kingdom of Meckelnburgh is one of the coldest nations on Micras, with all but Branniboria residing almost entirely within polar tundra and boreal climate zones. Branniboria is the warmest of all four constituent countries—it is the only state without boreal climates.

Due to the influence of the western currents of Tallandor Bay and the Northern Sea, Branniboria is classified on most of the island as humid continental with "warm" summers (Db classification). Here, midsummer may reach as high as 22 °C, and while the average temperatures range above 10 °C for half the year, they still drop below 0 °C during the winter. This region includes both Alexandrople and Neuw Frans on the north, east, and south shores.

The middle latitudes of the west shore are the main exception, where Branniboria enjoys a humid continental with "hot" summers (Da classification). While the average temperature still drops below 0 °C one or two months of the year, a third is spent 20 °C or higher and temperatures can reach 26 °C or more.
