The 2023 Senyan Grand Prix, officially presented as the Formula Micras Senyan Grand Prix 2023, is a Formula Micras World Championship race that was held on 4 June 2023 at the Northend Circuit, a motor racing circuit in the city of Northend, Senya. It served as the fourth race of the 2023 Formula Micras World Championship.

Background

The drivers and teams were the same as the season entry list.

It was the fourth round of the 2023 Formula Micras World Championship. The race therefore took place in the home country of the Enigma Motorsports and represented the home Grand Prix for the driver George Hunt.

The 2022 edition saw the triumph of Trent Cooper, with Ottone Qualchempresario and Ghastiv Boure-Janke'Shouivul on the podium.

Tyre Choices

The two tyre manufacturers (Bouncy Rings and Vitesse) brought for this Grand Prix three choices of compounds for the teams: Soft, Medium, Hard.

Practice Session

The practice session was held at the Grand Prix lasting an hour in length; it was scheduled on 2 June 2023, and started at 15:00 local time, having the following situation:

Qualifying

As clarified by the regulations, the qualifying session took place on 3 June 2023, with a 3-manche sessions: the 15 fastest drivers had access to Q2, then the 10 fastest acceded to Q3, where they fought for pole-position.

Report

After qualifying conditioned by the rain, in which both George Hunt and Treuenfeld were excluded from Q1 due to not having completed a lap on dry tyres, the Grand Prix got off to an excellent start for the poleman Michele Spettacolo who kept the lead closely followed by the surprising Osian and the champion incumbent Trent Cooper. On lap 4 Samira Khan in an attempt to attack Soma for fourth position, delays braking too much and ends up off the track, crashing into the barriers. The incident leads the race direction to call out the safety car, which returns two laps later without anyone taking advantage of it for a pit stop that would have been far too early. At the restart, Osian struggled and was overtaken by both Trent Cooper and Soma, while Treuenfeld and Hunt tried to make their way into the last positions.

On lap 7 Trent Cooper began to suffer with the tires, a sign of a slightly struggling car this year, and dropped several places, finishing ninth after overtaking by Albrecht Kransk, Janke Shouivul and Pho Bin. On lap 11 the first pit stops begin with Francesco Giocatore, Bròlt and Yakuzaki the first to stop, followed two laps later by Qualchempresario who, leaves an excellent second position, to attempt an undercut on Michele Spettacolo, only to fail due to an error strategy that puts him behind Pho Bin when leaving the pits, forcing him to lose a lot of time. On lap 16 Trent Cooper and Maddox Islwyn also come to a stop who, however, delaying the stop a lot, end up in the rear and are forced to face the traffic of riders who either had already stopped or started on harder tyres. On lap 17 it was time to change tires also for Michele Spettacolo, who was firmly back in P1, and for Osian who, thanks to an excellent pace on used tyres, managed to get out in P4 after the stop just behind a strenuous fight for position. On lap 20, however, Osian, in an attempt to overtake Qualchempresario, makes a mistake and is overtaken by Schaffnaust who was just behind.

On lap 25 Janke-Shouivul, who had started on the harder tyre, made his pit stop and, thanks to the traffic suffered by Trent Cooper, Soma and Maddox Islwyn and the fights ahead, managed to get back to fourth position, while Cooper and Soma managed to to return to the points zone.

On lap 37,Qualchempresario, Maddox Islwyn and Trent Cooper make their second stop, while Osian stays out to stop on lap 44, losing all hope of being able to attack Qualchempresario for second position. Michele Spettacolo, first from the start to the end of the race, he wins the Grand Prix, dominating the race and without anyone ever questioning his victory today. Difficult race for the championship leader Treuenfeld who, after a disastrous qualifying, ends up outside the points and sees Michele Spettacolo at -2 from the leader; the same fate befell George Hunt who, despite managing to recover several positions from the start, found himself overtaken by the vegnese driver in the standings and with Trent Cooper who, despite everything, obtained good points and moved to -5 from the championship lead.
