The New Brittania national football team was the football team which represented the micronation of New Brittania. It was a founding member of both the FMF and the WMFA, and was run by the NBFA. The team is the official predecessor of Britannia, and the official predecessor and successor of Númenor, which existed in 2007.
The team existed twice in the FMF's history; firstly between the organisation's founding and early 2007, and secondly between mid-2007 and early 2008.
History
New Brittania was one of the founding members of the FMF when the organisation was created in October 2006 prior to the first FMF World Cup. The national team competed in the tournament, finishing third in their group with four points behind Alexandria, despite beating Craitland 4–0 in their final match. Following the tournament, New Brittania was succeeded by Númenor before reverting to its old name later in the year having played one friendly match.
Again as New Brittania, the team competed in 2007's World Cup qualifiers, where they beat Mania 7–1 on aggregate in the WMFA first round before a 3–1 aggregate win over Istvanistan sealed qualification. However, in the finals, the team were less successful, finishing bottom of their group with only one point to their name. Later in the year, the team was invited to compete in the inaugural EMU Championships, despite being affiliated to the WMFA. The team finished second in their seven-team group and advanced to the quarter-finals, where they lost to 2–1 to co-hosts Nova England. New Brittania left Micras in early 2008, although its successor state, the Britannic Empire, returned later in the year.
