Second Oportian Republic
The Second Oportian Republic refers to the period of Oportia's history from 1722 AN to XII.1744 AN, beginning with the constitutional reforms of 1722 following the 1721 Oportian protests and ending with the 1744 Oportian coup d'état. This era was characterized by a series of progressive democratic reforms that transformed Oportia from a centralized republic into a federal constitutional republic with a bicameral legislature and the Federal Electorate of Oportia serving as a fourth branch of government.
The republic experienced significant economic development during this period, particularly through the discovery and exploitation of Alexandrium, as well as territorial expansion following Operation Verdant Reach (1729 AN-1730 AN). Major challenges during this period included the Recession of 1737, the Oportia–Nouvelle Alexandrie integration scandal, and most significantly, the Corsair Resurgence which, along with the subsequent political fallout, led to the military coup that ended the Republic and established the National Salvation Council under Commodore Joseph Fouche.
