Kriegskorps Tatschanka Kompanie
The Kriegskorps Tatschanka Kompanie was an experimental company within the Kriegskorps Ludwigshafen of Sankt Ludwigshafen. The company used armoured wagons drawn by two donkeys per wagon, outfitted with heavy machine guns in the back. The Tatschanka Kompanie was the first effort of the armed forces of the Republic of Sankt Ludwigshafen to establish armoured cavalry. The idea to create the Tatschanka Kompanie arose after the Ludwiggian-Monovian War, when the Kriegskorps was given the task to escort merchant convoys, from Stadt Sankt Ludwigshafen and Stadt Sankt Elonzo through the dangerous Lanzerwald. With the help of the tachankas, the units were able to return fire to ambushing tribal attackers, without stopping the convoy.
The company was given funding by the Nationalversammlung der Republik Sankt Ludwigshafen in XII.1703, first units were operational in XIII.1703 and funding was scheduled to be provided until XV.1713. In I.1713 the experiment would have to be evaluated by the general staff of the Kriegskorps Ludwigshafen and an advise would have to be given to the Nationalversammlung whether to give the tachanka a permanent position within the Ludwigshafener armed forces. However, the rise of the Lanzerwald Republic proved to be an end to the experiment. When the Republic of Sankt Ludwigshafen rose again during the 1716 Ludwiggian Restoration, Ludwiggian technology had advanced further, and the Panzergefechtswagen I had made the Kriegskorps Tatschanka Kompanie obsolete.
