Giles Melang (sometimes spelt Gilles or Gil'les Mel'ang) served as Kaiser for a brief period in 1577 as Kaiser Cedris. He is probably remembered as the worst kaiser in Shirerithian history. As kaiser, Cedris was erratic and confused everyone. He had Shireroth quit the MTO, appointed his arbiter (Daniel Kalirion) court jester when he was unhappy with the Imperial Judex, and alienated large parts of the nobility. In the end, the Landsraad began impeachment proceedings against him. Before the vote to remove him had concluded, Cedris had abdicated.
Following his abdication, Giles continued to be visible in Shirerithian and Benacian public life. He was named Dutch of Kildare in 1585, a position he continued to hold until 1588. In 1594, he was elected to the Senate of Elwynn and Hurmu and served there until the end of its session in 1600. Through this senatorial position, he became a Knight of the Holy Lakes.
