Gravelbottom Airport is the sole international airport of the Garden of Kalgachia. Located in a river valley in the southwest of the country, it was built to service aircraft of the Kalgachi flag carrier El Kal Airways - a unitary subsidiary of the Directorate of Public Works responsible for civil air transport - on its newly-opened routes to Nova England. In the years since, the airport has acquired additional uses - although the reluctance of the Kalgachi authorities to permit economic or political dependence on foreign powers has given this development a somewhat stunted character, not helped by the frequent disruption of its operations by Tee-al alerts.
Civilian and commercial operations from the airport were suspended during the Inner-Benacian Conflict (1681 AN–1683 AN) as a consequence of hostile actions directed against the site and its strategically important runway.
The closure of the Jodocus van Haltna International Airfield following a temporal discontinuity incident (phenomena observed to have occurred 13.XII–12.XIII.1690 AN, but which Batavian authorities claim had already occurred in 1685 AN) terminated Kalgachia's long established air corridor to the outside world - obliging the Garden, with great reluctance, to begin negotiations with the Unified Governorates of Benacia for the creation of a replacement via Siyachia and Naudia'Diva.
Allied forces established their presence at the airport in 1717 AN, utilising it as a logistics hub during Operation Penitent.
