Floria First! is the official campaign for Michael Hutchinson's attempt for a second term as Florian President. After a successful first term as President, Hutchinson was once again put forward as the presidential nominee for the UPR in its 1736 Convention in Hutchinson's home state of Pentucky. Vice President and running mate Ronald Trueman Jr. was once again put forward as the secondary part of the ticket. The campaign would ultimately be successful after Hutchinson beat Adams 170-100 in the election.
Background
Convention
Hutchinson formally accepted renomination by unanimous decision in 1736 on the convention's final day. Hutchinson was unopposed.
Political positions
Abortion
Abortion laws are controversial in Floria. The Church of Floria strictly bans abortion as a standalone right but permits it in exceptional cases. Abortion by request has been illegal since 1728 United and the United Republicans under Hutchinson will continue to restrict its legality.
Economy
Education
Hutchinson has proposed to close the Department of Education replacing control of education with state-level authorities. Hutchinson stated his support for teachers to carry concealed weapons, and to provide funding to allow schools to hire armed guards.[32][201] Trump has said he will require universities to "defend American tradition and Western civilization" and purge diversity programs.[139]
Trump has stated his intention to promote prayer in public schools, and said he would fight for "nationalist education" that will "teach students to love their country and be proud to be Florian" and will promote traditional values such as "the nuclear family".
Foreign policy
Hutchinson's 1738 campaign promoted an isolationist "Floria First" foreign policy.
In response to the previous sanctions imposed on the country, Hutchinson believed during his campaign and previous administration that reliance on other nations for running the country was a no-go. In his previous administration, Floria traded much less to foreign allies especially after Floria finally left the now dysfunctional Raspur Pact, which proved to be pivotal as Floria, with a now protectionist economic policy, would largely be unaffected by the Recession of 1737.
Hutchinson promised the Florian people that the country would remain unaligned as long as he was in power and that was strongly emphasised during the campaign. The rival SDP was open to opening up Floria again to intermicronational alliances.
On the Streïur uis Faïren, Hutchinson vowed that defectors caught in Floria who fought for either side would face prosecution and be punished by the death penalty for the reason of "treason to the Greater Florian State".
Hutchinson has dismissed the Confederacy of the Dispossessed and has pledged that Floria would no longer be involved in efforts to eliminate the terrorist organisation.
