The Federal Merchant Marine of Nouvelle Alexandrie (FMMNA) is an organization composed civilian mariners and both civilian and government-owned merchant vessels under the flag of Nouvelle Alexandrie. Formed in 1690 AN, it is managed through a collaboration between the government and the private sector. The Federal Merchant Marine plays a pivotal role in Nouvelle Alexandrie's economy, ensuring the smooth flow of trade across Micras' navigable waters. It is tasked with transporting goods and services, connecting the nation's resource-rich continental zones with major trading hubs such as Neridia and the Neridian Commodities Exchange within the Raspur Pact framework.

Much like its Raspur Pact counterparts, the Federal Merchant Marine is not only a civilian enterprise during peacetime but also serves as a crucial auxiliary force to the Federal Forces of Nouvelle Alexandrie in times of conflict. It is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a diverse fleet, including deep-sea merchant ships, ferries, and other waterborne crafts, across oceans, rivers, and canals.

As of 1728 AN, the Nouvelle Alexandrie merchant fleet comprises 240 privately owned, oceangoing, self-propelled vessels, showcasing the nation's significant maritime capabilities. A notable portion of this fleet, approximately 60%, operates under international registries, a strategy that accommodates global maritime regulations and economic advantages. In parallel, the government of Nouvelle Alexandrie, through the Department of Defense, operates an additional 50 merchant ships. These vessels are pivotal to Nouvelle Alexandrie's strategic sealift capabilities, ensuring a robust and responsive maritime logistics support system for both peacetime and wartime operations.

In recognition of their invaluable service and potential role in national defense, officers of the Federal Merchant Marine may receive commissions as reserve officers in the Federal Forces of Nouvelle Alexandrie.
