Edgardia is a port city in the Shahzamin region of the Imperial State of Constancia. Founded in 1706 AN during the territorial consolidation that followed the Third Euran War, the city was named in honour of Edgard II, a former emperor of Alexandria, reflecting the strong ties between the Alexandrian diaspora and Constancia. The settlement was established as part of a deliberate effort to attract Alexandrian refugees and migrants displaced by the earlier collapse of their homeland, and its population remains predominantly Alexandrian in character. Three languages hold common usage in the city: Alexandrian as the primary vernacular, Constancian as the administrative language of the Imperial State, and Babkhi.
The city developed rapidly as a commercial and maritime centre due to its strategic position, serving as a conduit for trade between the interior provinces of Constancia and its Raspur Pact allies. Edgardia is represented on the Council of Shahzamin alongside the other major settlements of the region, including Eridu, Al-Ghabi, and Duhok. The municipal government operates under the oversight of the Governor of Shahzamin, though the city maintains certain autonomies in local affairs typical of Constancian urban administration. Edgardia's harbour facilities support both commercial shipping and fishing industries, contributing to the broader maritime economy of the Imperial State.
Major landmarks
Edgardia developed a distinctive urban landscape blending Alexandrian architectural traditions with the standard civic infrastructure of Constancian cities. The following landmarks represent the most significant structures within the municipality.
Civic and government
- Edgardia Government Complex — The administrative centre of the city, housing the municipal offices, the mayor's residence, and the local offices of the Governor of Shahzamin. Constructed in a neoclassical Alexandrian style with Constancian imperial motifs.
- Le Ziggurat d'Edgardia — A stepped tower in the Babkhan tradition, serving as a civic monument and ceremonial space. Completed in 1712 AN, it represents the synthesis of Constancian state authority with the pre-existing Euran heritage of the region.
- Edgardia City Walls — Defensive fortifications encircling the original settlement, constructed during the initial founding period. Now largely ceremonial, several gates remain operational checkpoints.
- Place Edgard II — The central public square, named for the city's namesake Emperor Edgard II of Alexandria. A bronze statue of the emperor stands at its centre, surrounded by government buildings and commercial establishments.
Religious
- Cathédrale Saint-Michel d'Edgardia — The principal Alexandrian church in the city, serving the majority population. Built in the Neo-Alexandrian revival style favoured by the Alexandrian diaspora, with services conducted in Alexandrian.
- Edgardian Temple of the Patriarchal Orthodox Faith — A temple of the official Constancian state religion, constructed to serve the Constancian administrative and military personnel stationed in the city.
- Masjed-e Nour — A large temple serving the Zurvanite congregation of the city, featuring traditional Babkhan architectural elements including a turquoise-tiled dome.
Commercial and industrial
- Port of Edgardia — The city's principal maritime facility, operated under concession by Kerularios & Company. The port handles both commercial cargo and fishing vessels, with dedicated facilities for customs inspection and warehousing.
- Edgardia Fish Market — A covered marketplace adjacent to the port, where the daily catch is auctioned each morning. The market serves as a centre of economic and social activity for the fishing community.
- Marché Central — The main retail marketplace of the city, featuring permanent stalls and weekly open-air trading. Goods from across Eura and the Raspur Pact are available.
- ESB Depot — A logistical facility operated by the ESB Group, supporting the company's shipping and transportation activities in the Shahzamin region.
