The Citadele Alexandrin is a strategic military installation operated by the Federal Forces of Nouvelle Alexandrie, situated near Sarensby, Normark. Completed in 1719 AN, this fortress-like complex has played a pivotal role in Nouvelle Alexandrie's northern defense strategy and served as the headquarters for joint Natopian-New Alexandrian operations in Normark, most notably during Operation Sable Shield against the Confederacy of the Dispossessed.

History

Design and Layout

Citadele Alexandrin's architecture melds defensive functionality with technology tailored for the extreme arctic environment. The base's pentagonal layout, spanning 2.5 square kilometers, echoes traditional star forts while employing modern materials and design principles. At its core stands the Command Hub, a 12-story structure housing administrative offices, a communications center with quantum encryption capabilities, and the Boreal Watchtower intelligence facility.

Radiating from the central hub are five wings, each 500 meters long, containing barracks for 3,000 personnel, training facilities with advanced VR combat simulators, a 200-bed medical center equipped with robotic surgery units, and storage depots with automated inventory systems. The complex is enveloped by 15-meter high, 3-meter thick reinforced concrete walls, interspersed with watchtowers every 100 meters. These watchtowers feature thermal imaging cameras with a 10km range and automated defensive turrets capable of firing 1,000 rounds per minute.

The Citadele's structures utilize a composite of carbon nanotubes and aerogel insulation, enabling them to withstand temperatures as low as -70°C and seismic events up to magnitude 8.0. A 20km network of underground tunnels, maintained at a constant 18°C, connects all major facilities, ensuring unimpeded movement during harsh weather. Power generation relies on a combination of a 150MW geothermal plant and a 300MW small modular nuclear reactor from AlduATOM, guaranteeing energy self-sufficiency.

A closed-loop waste management system recycles 98% of all waste produced, while the water recycling facility processes 500,000 liters daily, recovering 95% for reuse. The 5,000 square meter indoor hydroponic farm yields 20 tons of fresh produce monthly, supplementing the base's food supply.

Runway

The Citadele's 3,500-meter runway can accommodate aircraft up to the size of a Javelin C-15 Titanhauler transports. Its sophisticated de-icing system, utilizing a network of heating elements embedded in the tarmac, can clear 2cm of ice in under 15 minutes, ensuring year-round operability even in the harshest arctic conditions.

Strategic Importance

Citadele Alexandrin serves as a cornerstone of Nouvelle Alexandrie's northern defense strategy and plays a vital role in Raspur Pact operations in the region. Its location near Sarensby allows for rapid deployment of forces across northern Keltia and provides a strategic vantage point for monitoring potential threats. The base's advanced radar systems and satellite communication facilities contribute significantly to the Raspur Pact's early warning network. In conjunction with other Raspur Pact installations, Citadele Alexandrin helps maintain a comprehensive surveillance coverage over a vast area of Keltia and the surrounding waters.

Units and Personnel

The 115th Missile Air Defence Brigade was revealed as being operational at Citadele Alexandrin as of 1727 AN following the interception of intermediate-range ballistic missiles fired into Normark from neighbouring Cerulea during the Normark-Cerulea war of 1727.

As of 1735 AN, Citadele Alexandrin hosts several key military units:

  • 115th Missile Air Defence Brigade: Responsible for operating the base's advanced air defense systems, including the Vulcan Advanced Air Defense System.
  • 23rd Arctic Warfare Regiment: Specialized in cold weather combat and survival techniques.
  • Boreal Watchtower Intelligence Center: A joint New Alexandrian-Nordhær intelligence gathering and analysis unit.

The base maintains a permanent staff of approximately 3,000 military personnel and 500 civilian contractors. This number can increase significantly during large-scale exercises or in times of heightened alert.

Boreal Watchtower

The Boreal Watchtower is a state-of-the-art intelligence facility operated by the Federal Forces of Nouvelle Alexandrie within Citadele Alexandrin. Its primary mission is to provide comprehensive intelligence support for Raspur Pact operations in northern Keltia. The facility houses an extensive satellite ground station capable of communicating with and controlling multiple military and reconnaissance satellites, ensuring constant surveillance and communication capabilities across the region.

At the heart of the Watchtower's operations is the AURORA (Advanced Unified Reconnaissance and Observation Remote Analysis) system, a sophisticated artificial intelligence-driven platform that integrates data from various sources, including satellite imagery, signals intelligence, and human intelligence. AURORA's neural networks can identify patterns and anomalies in vast datasets, providing analysts with real-time insights and predictive intelligence. The facility's signals intelligence (SIGINT) capabilities are enhanced by the Quantum Interceptor, a cutting-edge system designed by Sarbanes-Lopez Cybersecurity and Lyrica Defense Technologies, that utilizes quantum computing principles to decrypt and analyze complex electronic communications. This technology allows the Watchtower to stay ahead of evolving encryption methods used by potential adversaries. Complementing these advanced systems is the Relocatable Over-the-Horizon Radar (ROTHR), an array of 34 antennas spread across 117 acres. The ROTHR system employs advanced ionospheric refraction techniques to monitor air and sea traffic over more than 1,000,000 square miles of Keltia, providing early warning of any potential threats approaching New Alexandrian or Raspur Pact territories.

The Watchtower's operations are closely coordinated with other Raspur Pact intelligence agencies through the NEXUS (Network for Exchange of Unified Strategic Information) platform, a secure, quantum-encrypted communication network that ensures real-time sharing of critical intelligence across alliance members.

Training and Exercises

Citadele Alexandrin serves as a premier training facility for arctic warfare and cold weather operations. The base's location and advanced facilities allow for realistic training scenarios that prepare troops for the unique challenges of combat in extreme cold environments. Regular training activities encompass a wide range of skills essential for arctic operations, including survival techniques, equipment handling, and specialized combat tactics.

Citadele Alexandrin also hosts larger multinational exercises, such as Exercise Arctic Sentinel, which bring together forces from various Raspur Pact nations. These exercises focus on enhancing interoperability, testing new tactics, and evaluating technologies designed for arctic warfare.

New Alexandrian-Nordhær Joint Training Mission

Main article: Operation Frost Forge

Since 1730 AN, Citadele Alexandrin has been the site of an ongoing joint training mission between the Federal Forces of Nouvelle Alexandrie and the Nordhær, underscoring the strong military cooperation between Nouvelle Alexandrie and Normark. This initiative, codenamed Operation Frost Forge, aims to enhance the arctic warfare capabilities of both nations and foster greater interoperability within the Raspur Pact.

The training mission revolves around a six-month rotation system, where units from both nations engage in intensive cross-training exercises. New Alexandrian forces, primarily from the 23rd Arctic Warfare Regiment, share their expertise in advanced cold weather combat techniques and the operation of specialized arctic equipment. In return, the Nordhær contributes its deep understanding of the local terrain and long-standing experience in northern warfare tactics.

A key component of the mission is the Arctic Warfare Innovation Program (AWIP), which encourages collaborative research and development of new technologies and strategies for arctic combat. This program has yielded several notable advancements, including the URSUS-7 cold-resistant combat exoskeleton and the Javelin SNOWFOX autonomous reconnaissance drone, both of which have significantly enhanced arctic operational capabilities.

The joint mission also includes regular war game scenarios that simulate various potential conflict situations in the arctic region. These exercises, often involving other Raspur Pact allies, test and refine joint command structures, logistics, and rapid response capabilities in extreme cold conditions.
