Anglien-Çakaristan Treaty of Friendship

The Treaty of Friendship and Non-Aggression between the Free Duchy of Anglien and Çakaristan is a bilateral treaty between the Free Duchy of Anglien and the Çakar Empire, signed at Johannsessbuurg on 10.III.1757 AN. Talks between the two national delegations opened in Johannsessbuurg earlier in 1757 AN. The treaty enters into force upon ratification by both states in accordance with their respective constitutional procedures.

The treaty commits both parties to non-aggression and the peaceful settlement of disputes, exchanges recognition of the territorial settlements arising from the Lac Glacei Act, establishes reciprocal visa-free travel of 90 days, accords most-favored-nation treatment in bilateral trade, permits scheduled air services between the two states, and provides for cooperation in the investigation and prosecution of crimes committed during the NKR period in the territories formerly under Lac Glaceian sovereignty. It expressly provides that the treaty creates no alliance and no mutual defense obligation, consistent with Anglien's policy of active non-alignment and with Çakaristan's own position outside the major alliance blocs.

The two states were co-belligerents against the Nü Krantisk Repüblik, though on separate fronts and under separate frameworks. Çakari forces conducted Operation: Him Shul in Frankish Cognito from 1753 AN, while Anglien's liberation came through the CATO-coordinated intervention. The Lac Glacei Act of 23.XII.1754 AN, which recognized the Free Duchy's independence, also recognized the transfer of authority in Frankish Cognito to Çakaristan as valid under international law, giving the two states a common legal foundation in the post-Lac Glaceian settlement.

Negotiation and signature

The Anglian delegation was led by Anneke Brandsen, Minister of External Affairs. The Çakari delegation was led by Nawari Fazil, Vizier ud-Dawla (Minister of State). The CATO Commissioner of Peace for Anglien was consulted in accordance with the Charter of Anglien and raised no objection to the negotiations.

The treaty was signed at Johannsessbuurg on 10.III.1757 AN by Transitional Prime Minister Eduard Vogt for the Free Duchy of Anglien and by Grand Vizier Talal Sayfasad for the Çakar Empire. On the Anglian side, ratification by the Diet of Anglien is expected as a matter of government practice, consistent with the duchy's other bilateral treaties. On the Çakari side, ratification proceeds in accordance with the constitutional procedures of Çakaristan.

  2. Such cooperation shall include mutual legal assistance, the exchange of evidence, access to relevant archives, the facilitation of witness testimony, and the surrender of persons indicted before the competent tribunals of either High Contracting Party.
  3. Neither High Contracting Party shall grant refuge, amnesty, or immunity to any person indicted before such a tribunal.
