The Constancian Trap Problem
- Not to be confused with Constancian traps
The Constancian Trap Problem, refers to the paradox whereby the Autokrator of Constancia, at the height of their powers, upon acceding to the position of Basileus of Constancia forfeits the wide-ranging, near dictatorial, powers associated with the former office and effectively becomes the prisoner of their successor.
It has been noted that reigning Basileuses have attempted to avoid this trap by counterbalancing Constancian authority through direct control of the Trans-Euran Command and Committee of Euran Salvation. The consensus of international observers has been however that this very much depends upon the calibre of the individual in question, with Esmeralda being markedly more successful than Giakoumis II in striking the right balance.
