Royston Merrick was a man who rose to prominence in 1599, coming seemingly out of nowhere. In 1599, he immigrated to Tyrenia, establishing his already existing slave-trading business there. Later, the same year, he received the right of "civitatem" in Tyrenia "for his contribution for the Tyrenian slave-trading and his hard work for the benefit of our glorious nation". He was briefly Consul of Tyrenia in 1603.
In 1600, he managed to become elected to the Senate of the Lakes. He quickly reformed policing in Hurmu, and managed to set all policing authority under himself through his control of the Gate Guard Authority and the Society of The Guardians of the Lakes.
The next year, he was elected to yet another Senate, that of Elwynn. He was also appointed General (OF-9) within the Union Defence Forces. In 1604, he became Conducător of Elwynn, a position he held until his death a few days later. It is believed that Tokaray al-Osman orchestrated this death.
Merrick had two sons that he acknowledged and named after himself. The first one was born in 1581 and died in an accident at university in 1603. The other one was born shortly before his own death.
