The title Great Light is a title given to a selection of Heavenly Lights in Jingdao. They are considered to be even more sublime than the other Heavenly Lights. Notably lacking from the list are the Kaiming Emperor and the Ci Emperor, who are highly considered, but faced some notable defeats during their lifetimes and the stories of their lives do not always reflect current thinking. The list of Great Lights reflects sentiments of the 1680's, and is highly influenced by Chidaoism. Schools in Jingdao emphasise the Great Lights in history classes to present a linear vision on history, of which the Chidao Emperor is the culmination, and to avoid awkward questions.
