The Liðsskjaldarvaldeð (Gate Guard Authority) was a paramilitary force formerly tasked with the defence of the original Hurmu Gate against external assault or incursions from beyond the gate. Attested as being engaged in the defence of the original gate as late as 1600 AN, this force was not sufficient to save Hurmu from the genocide inflicted uptit by Jingdao following the demise of the Dominion.

Following incidents adversely impacting the safety of the revived Hurmu Gate Network the Gate Guard was revived in 1704 AN as an independent agency and operational command of the Hurmu Constabulary.

In the fifth month of 1719 AN the Liðsskjaldarvaldeð repudiated its subordination to the Hurmu Constabulary following the efforts of the Minister of Policing and Security Ramzan Q̇adar Khan Abakhtari to conduct a wholesale purge of the force and transfer to policing duties to the Hurmudan trade unions movement. The Gate Guard thereafter professed that they would operate solely at the direction of the Hurmu Gate Company and the Order of the Holy Lakes.
