Paolo Antonio Aguilar is a New Alexandrian politician from the Region of Santander. He He is known in Nouvelle Alexandrie for his charisma, conviction, and determination. He currently serves as the President of the Government of Nouvelle Alexandrie for the Federal Humanist Party, since 1718 AN. He was previously an independent Deputy of the Federal Assembly before joining the Federal Humanist Party in 1708 AN.

Deploring the persistent economic stagnation of Santander following the re-establishment of government and integration to Alduria-Wechua (now Nouvelle Alexandrie) in 1686 AN after the White Plague and Wechua Sorrow, Aguilar self-published a manifesto entitled Regeneracionismo. In this work, he sharply criticized the government's ineffectiveness, creating a stir that initially made him a prized recruit for the Nationalist & Humanist Party in the nascent Federation. Winning a seat in the Cortes Regionales de Santander with the party was an easy feat, but his denouncement of their leadership in Santander quickly turned allies into foes.

His outspoken nature, combined with his parentage and lineage, spared him from further political retaliation. Time would validate his perspective, as his admirable recruiting, organization, and mutual aid efforts in his constituency in Santiago attracted numerous supporters and donors, collectively known as Paolo's Pobres (Paolo's Poor).

Despite his landslide re-elections, Aguilar faced ostracization within the [[Cortes Regionales. His lack of allies led to denial of significant committee memberships, resulting in his assignment to the Subcommittee on Sewers of the Committee on Sanitation. Undeterred, Aguilar demonstrated remarkable zeal in this position, pushing for comprehensive planning, management, and maintenance of sewers, and earned the nickname "Señor Ordenado."

As the convenor and public face of the New Santander Initiative, he continued to build his reputation as a proactive leader. His appointment as President of the Santiago Development Corporation in 1700 AN and subsequent promotion to Chairman further showcased his capabilities.

Deputy for Santander in the Cortes Federales (1703-1708)

Paolo Antonio Aguilar's political journey began with his election as an independent Deputy of the Federal Assembly for the Region of Santander in the 1703 general elections. Despite running as an independent candidate in a challenging election year, Aguilar's grassroots campaign resonated with the populace of Santander, leading to a stunning victory that immediately catapulted him into the political spotlight. A charismatic speaker and committed advocate for reform, Aguilar quickly established himself as a vocal critic of existing political structures during the campaign, and then later in his job as Deputy of the Federal Assembly. He pursued an agenda focused on economic revitalization, government transparency, and community engagement. Despite his status as an independent, his initiatives often found support across party lines, further enhancing his reputation.

As an independent Deputy, Aguilar became a key vote in the passage of several groundbreaking initiatives advanced by the Social Democratic and Liberal Alliance-Moderate Caucus coalition government ({[AN|1703}}-1708 AN). He was instrumental in supporting legislation aimed at greater worker's protections and strengthening labor laws. Aguilar's commitment to social justice, equity, and humane working conditions resonated with the coalition's objectives, making him a natural ally in these efforts. In addition to his support for social and labor policies, Aguilar demonstrated a keen interest in foreign affairs and defense. He found common ground with the Federal Humanist Party on several vital issues, lending his support to proposals that prioritized national security, international cooperation, and a robust defense strategy.

During his time as an independent Deputy, Aguilar resisted overtures from many established political parties - in particular the Moderate Caucus, maintaining his independent stance until 1708 AN. His ability to navigate complex political waters without formal party backing demonstrated his political acumen and established him as a top recruit for various political parties, causes, and movements. His balanced approach and willingness to work with multiple factions set him apart as a unifying figure and an influential force in Nouvelle Alexandrie's political landscape.

His tenure was marked by the aggressive rollout of new technologies in broadcasting, with a focus on expanding access to media in underserved regions of the Federation. He also championed the development of a vibrant domestic media industry that was "humanist, patriotic, vibrant, and creative".

Collaborating closely with the Department of Interior and the Department of Defense, Aguilar oversaw key initiatives aimed at improving the defense and protection of the nation's communications and information systems. His leadership in administering NANII, the New Alexandrian National Information Infrastructure, led to significant advancements in the country's digital landscape. As Secretary, Aguilar's approach to mobilizing communication services, media, and civil society earned him praise for his innovative and effective strategies. He served with distinction, achieving notable successes in fostering collaboration between government agencies, the media industry, and community stakeholders during his term as Secretary.
