Chastisement of the Hereditary Lords
The Chastisement of the Hereditary Lords was the name given to a campaign launched by Minister Li Suyi as he sought to assert authority over the Eastern Imperium and restore order amongst the feuding dukes and warlords of the former Jingdaoese Empire prior to the 1717 Shirerithian general elections.
The objective of the campaign, begun in the ninth month of 1716 AN, was remarkably straightforward: the Minister proposed to visit each hereditary duke, known since the Treaty of Gaelen's Landing, to assess their domains, the condition of their estates, and their loyalty to the Golden Mango Throne. Those who survived this scrutiny would be permitted to perform the kowtow to the Imperial Icon depicting the likeness of Salome, whilst those who did not would pass into the custody of the Tegong.
In this endeavour Li Suyi had quickly been able to secure the support of the Imperial Household in Daocheng, the Talons of the Archon, and the General Inspectorate of Apollonia Command. These "Imperial Loyalists" readily pledged to contribute contingents to the expeditionary force Li proposed to gather at Gaelen's Landing.
