The Floria national rugby league team is the national rugby league team of the Florian Republic. The team is administered by the Florian Republic Rugby Football League. On the 20th June, it beat Tellia 20-10 in its first ever match. Since then the Centurions regularly competed in international competition such as the ARL Championships and FMRL World Cup. In 2017, they contested the Williams Shield against Etourney. The team will compete at the 2018 FMRL Four Nations due to winning hosting rights.
History
First matches
In 2017, the Florian Republic came into existence and early in its history rugby league became extremely popular as the sport rapidly became popular among the working class people in the country, whilst rugby union suffered due to lack of interest from upper-class citizens. Several amateur clubs were formed before 12 of them became fully professional, leading to the formation of the Florian Super League, later on, most of the remaining clubs would become professional and join the semi-professional leagues below the Super League. Only three days after the formation of the country, the national team would play its first international against Tellia.
Failure to qualify for the 2017 FMRL World Cup
After formation, the Florian Republic entered qualification for the 2017 FMRL World Cup, which was held in Vyktory. There were high expectations for the team to qualify as group winners however then teams qualifying campaign was a disaster. Playing Gerenia in their competitive debut, a poor performance lead to a 30-12 defeat. A week later, the team travelled to Lamantia and drew 24-24 in a tight game. It got even worse for the team as they were embarrassingly hammered by Gerenia 40-6 leading to huge riots after the game and the eventual sacking of James Noble, the manager at the time. A week later, Jack Rowley a hugely successful manager at domestic level was appointed and the appointment paid off as the team thrashed Lamantia 40-0 at home in their final qualifying match. With a chance of reaching the repechage round of the qualifiers still possible, hopes of reaching the repechage rounds were thwarted after results did not go their way in the last game of the qualifying group, thus the team did not qualify for the main tournament.
2018-present
The team started off 2018 with a test match against Mercury national rugby league team. In a close encounter, the team lost 36-24 in a thrilling game. It was also the teams first defeat since their embarrassment during the 2017 FMRL World Cup qualification tournament. A few days, The team shocked the rugby league world a few days after they beat the World Champions, Senya 22-18 in a packed Northcliff Arena. To prepare for the 2018 ARL Championships, the team toured Keltia playing the likes of Tellia,Nova English Korea and old foes, Mercury.
