The Safiria national football team is the football team which currently represents the micronation of Safiria, and previously represented the Hammish autonomous territory and Shirerithian protectorate of the same name. It is a member of the WMFA, after originally being affiliated to the AEFA, and is run by the League of Safiria.
The team has existed twice in the FMF's history; firstly in 2010 as both an independent nation and a territory of Hamland, and secondly since late 2011, as a protectorate of Shireroth and again independently.
History
The team was founded in 2010 after Safiria's Micrasian claim was successful, but the nation was annexed by Hamland and became an autonomous territory soon after. During this time, Safiria played its first ever international match, before leaving Micras.
In late 2011, Safiria returned to Micras as an independent nation. Prior to the following year's World Cup qualifying, the team competed at the first ever Four Nations Internationals, finishing in third place. In the qualifiers, the team finished second in their four-team group with eleven points, behind Stormark, to reach the inaugural Copa Apollonia. Following qualifying, Safiria became a protectorate of Shireroth. In the Copa Apollonia, the team could only finish bottom of their group after losing both matches 2–0.
In early 2013, the team competed in the second edition of the Four Nations Internationals. The team won the tournament after beating Senya 2–1 in the final. In the year's qualifying, the team finished third in their five-team group with ten points. Later in the year, Safiria regained full independence from Shireroth.
In the 2014 qualifiers, Safiria topped their group with twenty points and secured a place at the 2014 FMF World Cup. The team also qualified for the 2014 Copa Apollonia, where they advanced from their group with six points before losing 2–0 to both North Antarctica and Senya to finish in fourth. In the World Cup, the team finished bottom of its group with three points but only missed-out on advancing to the quarter-finals by virtue of goals scored. Soon afterwards, Safiria switched its allegiance to the WMFA confederation.
In 2015's qualifiers, the team topped their four-team group with relative ease, gaining 13 points as they reached a second World Cup. The team were less successful in the finals, where they could only finish fourth in their group with four points and failed to advance to the knock-out rounds.
