Originally the Musican paddle-steamer "Benevolent Kern", notable for participating in the riverine trade with Shirekeep and ports along the River Elwynn as far north as Echo. The vessel was boarded by officers of the Corps of the Gentlemen-at-Cudgels on the suspicion of smuggling protected persons and taken under tow into the river port of Teldrin where it remained moored from 1721 AN to 1723 AN. The original crew, and the unlawfully concealed persons discovered onboard along with them, were subsequently transferred to Elluenuueq and assigned twenty-five years terms of service with the Benacian Labour Reserve.

Following the reactivation of the Captaincy of the Three Ports in 1723 AN, the vessel was taken over by port authorities and surveyed by a team of shipwrights for conversion into a warship suitable to serve as a freshwater aircraft carrier for the Riverine Division of the Maritime Forces of the Benacian Union.
