The title Great Light is a title given to a selection of Heavenly Lights in Jingdao. They are considered to be even more sublime than the other Heavenly Lights. Notably lacking from the list are the Kaiming Emperor and the Ci Emperor, who are highly considered, but faced some notable defeats during their lifetimes and the stories of their lives do not always reflect current thinking. The list of Great Lights reflects sentiments of the 1680's, and is highly influenced by Chidaoism. Schools in Jingdao emphasise the Great Lights in history classes to present a linear vision on history and avoid awkward questions.
The following Heavenly Lights are considered to be Great Lights:
- Mengjiang Emperor, ancestor to all Heavenly Lights and patriarch of the Erasmus Dynasty.
- Jinken Emperor, replaced the worship of many gods in Jingdao by the worship of only the emperor.
- Haigui Emperor, annexed the Apollonian Republic (former Kildare), which defines Jingdaoese territory to this day.
- Sheng Emperor, defeated the Jexit Kingdom and restored the Jingdaoese Empire, started the Sheng Restoration and created the Sheng Doctrine.
- Chidao Emperor, destroyed democratic tendencies in the empire and created the longest period of stability the empire had ever seen.
