History
Formed on the initiative of the Prime Minister of Hurmu to meet the requirements of the garrisoning of Karnamark shortly after its establishment in 1706 AN, the formation's status was formalised under a Defence Service Agreement with the Hurmu Peace Corps, for which the contract was signed on 1.XIII.1707 AN. The Army of Karnamark would be tasked to garrison Karnamark for the period 1707 AN–1712 AN with the possibility of the contract being renewed for a further period if performance was deemed to be satisfactory.
Initial commissions, for the two colonelcies, and the various subordinate appointments, were provided by auction under a process overseen by the commissioner of the district. Although the posts would receive a generous monthly stipend, it would be incumbent upon the officers themselves to raise the contracted formations, to meet the outlay for equipping the same, and to recoup the costs incurred through purchasing their commissions.
The Defence Service Agreement elapsed in 1712 AN without being renewed, owing to the demise of the final al-Osman cabinet. As of 1714 AN the Army of Karnamark remained in possession of its fortified places as a free company, levying fees upon the surrounding communities and receiving a compelled subsidy from the government of the colony. This oversight was addressed once it came to the attention of the administration in Huyenkula, with the result that a new ten year contract (1714-1724) was hurriedly brought into effect under the same terms as before.
