Wordplay is a Mercurian quiz show, aired on MeTV1. On air since July 2020, the show sees three contestants attempting to solve a series of word and number games, with the highest-scoring player advancing to the following day's episode.

Format

The show consists of a series of letters and numbers rounds. In the letters rounds, a selection of nine letters is made by one of the contestants, by choosing either consonants or vowels. Once the letters have been selected, contestants are given 30 seconds to make the longest possible word from the selection. The contestant that finds the longest word receives one point per letter in their word (i.e. a seven-letter word would score 7 points). Should any contestant find a nine-letter word, they are awarded a five-point bonus (for a total of 14 points). In the event of a tie for the longest word, all tied players will receive points.

In the numbers rounds, contestants must reach a randomly generated three-digit target figure using a selection of numbers chosen by one of the contestants, again within a 30 second time limit. They may choose any combination of six large or small numbers, with the large numbers being either 25, 50, 75 or 100, and the small numbers being any number from 1–10.

The final round consists of a pre-prepared nine-letter anagram. The first player that finds a valid nine-letter word from this selection scores the usual 14 points, and only 5 points are awarded to any other player that successfully finds a nine-letter word. If no player finds a nine-letter word, then the longest word entered in the quickest time will score five points.
