Mortimus "Varl" Merkajski is a Sovereign economist and Gentleman of the Assayers. He was elevated to the office of Eminent on the Assayers' Committee of Overnumismators following the end of Grigg Mercajski's Eminence in 1712.
Born in 1672, Varl's sharp intellect was evident from a young age, but his rise to prominence began with his appointment as a Gentleman Assayer where he used his meticulous attention to detail and uncanny ability to identify even the subtlest financial inconsistencies to make himself an invaluable asset to the Chamber. In 1712, following the esteemed Grigg Mercajski's tenure, Varl was thrust into the spotlight as the new Eminence of the Assayers' Committee. Since then, he has served with unwavering dedication, spearheading groundbreaking economic reforms that have ushered in an era of prosperity for the Confederation. His policies, characterized by an exquisite balance between innovation and tradition, have solidified his reputation as one of the most brilliant economic minds of his predecessor's disciples.
Towards the end of the 1720s, Mercajski's keen sense of insight continued to direct the Assayers' portfolio of investments to secure Sovereign interests, furthering their financial alliance with the Miþuï. With a firm grip on his Eminence, Varl Mercajski elected to publicly denounce the use of Protected Personhood within the Sovereign Confederation in the wake of the Commutation Act of 1729, hailing its passage as a much needed step to further Sovereign economic competitiveness within the Union[1].
Nominated by the Commission for the Sacred Treasury as General Plenipotentiary for Armament Tasks for the Chamber of Industry in VI.1731 AN.
